White Elm Single Barrel Buffalo Trace Imperial Stout (barrel from Louise Hy-Vee Sioux Falls), 13% ABV. Pours thick and black, with a ring of brown bubbles. Nose is bourbon, slight chocolate and vanilla. Taste follows, strong nutty bourbon, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Outstanding mouthfeel, overall world-class.

This is the same base beer as the variant I had last night, but was aged in Buffalo Trace vs. Blanton barrels. I preferred the Blanton's version by far. This is boozier and less sweet. Still world-class, but not other-world-class.

 

Usually after three beers yours truly transitions to wine or, on a good day when wife allows, bourbon.

That said, having another NC beer.

 

The beer looks great! My guess though it could kick ass.

 

My elderly father on a leaf peeping trip with my mother sent me this photo from his hotel room a bit earlier this evening. He said he was thinking about a second but he wasn’t sure how well his legs would hold up after it.



So I’m having the young-at-heart old man.
