I see some have given a brief weather forecast, its 45°, overcast and a fine mist is coming down. Now that that's over. I'm having a Woolly Haggis from Holzlager. I did not know that Holz means wood in German, lager means stock. Well they're in Woodstock, Illinois. Who'da thunk it?

River North Brewery -- Quandary - Rum Barrel (quadruple aged in rum barrels)

    2.41/5 rDev -37.4%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 1 | feel: 4 | overall: 2.5

    Revisited October 21st, 2021

Partially cloudy dark copper body; lively carbonation with a thin, light khaki head. Rich aroma; caramel and dark pitted fruits; musty wood. A rather unpleasant phenol taste; band aid; some caramel flavor; burnt rubber alcohol note. Heavy body; smooth and slick on the palate; semi-dryness.

I had high hopes that this latest version would be much better based on the looks and smell, but the taste really burns things. A rare miss from this brewery.

Poured at 49.6 ℉; Vintage: 2021, Release No.: 5, Mo. In Barrels: 8, Cases Bottled: 99

Original October 19th, 2014 Review and Ratings:

    3.5 3.25 3.75 3.5 3.5 (aggregate rating: 3.54)

    Review bottle data: none.

Reddish, copper-colored body with a decent off-white head. Smell comes across more like a cheap red wine scent than a rum; red wine vinegar; very faint deep, roasted malt scent. A varied mix of plum, molasses, brown sugar, vinegar; somewhat sour; green apple. Medium body with a smooth and low-key residual sugar baseline; somewhat dry finish.

Perhaps it was my particular bottle, but the rum effect came across more like a soured red wine. There was still a strong enough presence of rich and robust malts suitable for a quadruple styling and even a hint every so often of a rich rum influence with some sips, but there was an undeniable sourness and tartness to things that really detracted from what should have been a more malt-forward experience. Fair enough yet hardly stunning...

Drinking Fiddlehead Second Fiddle, which is kind of rare around here. Typically the IPA is on draft everywhere, even in really crappy bars so I'm glad to have it.

Laundry is done! Except for what I'm wearing, everything is clean. Got a 40 minute walk in while the wash was running, and another 20 while the dryer did its thang. This calls for another FH brew, and it seems one that got around a bit during the recently completed (?) NBS BIF (right @Ozzylizard , @snaotheus , @ovaltine , @kemoarps ?), Fresh Pine IPA from Matchless. A bit subdued, I suspect, but still solid and enjoyable.

Oof. I may not survive another year.

Another glorious day here in Western NC with temps in the low 70s and cool nights. Looking forward to doing some leaf peeping over the next couple of weekends as there are one or two trees here in the area LOL!
As hoped, having the last of the Thirsty Dog brews acquired from the Total Wine in Greenville, SC back in July. Much to my surprise this one was bottled in 2018. The Coconut Rum porter was a pretty good beer but perhaps the barrel faded over time leaving residual coconut sweetness. Fun to try nonetheless!
    Cheers,

Good day Advocates! Thanks @DoctorZombies for latching onto today's thread. After a nice long power walk I'm enjoying a really nice autumn day with SUMMIT TRUE BRIT IPA. Very nice and creamy. Lovely bitterness. It's like an long-time friend you don't get to see very often. Such a great brewery! Cheers! Keep on smiling! And HAPPY BDAY to @eppCOS !!

Del's Lemonade is a Rhode Island classic. Del's Shandy is ... well, less classic, but still a really enjoyable beer. :grinning:
