I have that same glass. I'd vote for that top set myself.

[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Third Street Brewhouse (3.9%)
: A light lager from Minnesota with flavors of corn, honey, pale malts, and a smooth finish.
    versus
    2) Coors Light (4.2%): A light beer from Colorado with flavors of crisp pale malts, strong carbonation for a sharp and clean finish.

    3) Firestone Mind Haze Tiki Smash (6.2%): A NEIPA from California with juicy flavors of hazy pineapple, citrus, and coconut flavors.
    versus
    4) New Belgium Agent 77 IPA (6.5%): An IPA from Colorado with flavors of pineapple, tropical orange, green melon, and a grassy finish.

    5) Bent Paddle Black (6.0%): A dark ale from Minnesota that has flavors of roasty coffee, oats, and a dry chocolate finish.
    versus
    6) Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald (6.0%): An American Porter from Ohio with flavors of smooth milk chocolate, cocoa, and caramel flavors.
(All 3 of 3 pairs correctly identified blind)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    1) Third Street Brewhouse Minnesota Light:
This is a nice light lager flavor of pale malts, some corn adjuncts and honey. Slightly sweeter than most light lagers.

    3) Firestone Mind Haze Tiki Smash: Both IPAs were good here, but this one surprised me with a nice juicy and hazy pineapple and coconut flavor.

    6) Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald: This was aged a bit and has tamed out with a nice smooth rich notes of milk chocolate.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you tried any Firestone Walker's Mind Haze series and what did you think?
Have you tried Bent Paddle Black or Edmund Fitzgerald and which do you prefer?

    Revisited February 24th, 2022 (2012 version)

Medium brown body, semi-cloudy; initially thick, spongy head, soon fades to a thin covering. Rich caramel notes on the nose; musty wood; a little booziness. Nice sweet taste upfront; boozy; harsh overriding bitterness; stale. Heavy body; soft and smooth on the palate; alcohol warmth permeates everything.

Ten years in the bottle and the beer is still good but not quite great. It seems a tad weak, not quite watery, but thin on flavors and mouthfeel. There is definitely a pronounced booziness. Oxidation may have started taking its toll on this one.

The appearance remains much the same. Ditto for the smell; soft and woody with a quiet touch of dark grains. A nice, elevated version of my 2014 sample of the beer. The mouthfeel is rich and sumptuous; very refined and soft.

Without the original beer and being able to time-travel to sample this 2018 version under the same timeframe and conditions, I can't say how they "truly" compare, yet I do seem to enjoy the taste and, especially, the mouthfeel compared to the 2014 version.

    ----------------------

    Original July 02nd, 2014 ratings: 3.75 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 (overall was 3.99 at the time of this review).

Deep, dark cherry red body with a respectable one-finger thick head. Soothing aroma of figs and dates, alcohol, caramel, tobacco. Toasty roasted malt flavor with an equally satisfying boozy warmth; raisins and plums; a cinnamon-like spiciness. Heavy bodied and thick sweetness with a dry element to the feel due to the ABV.

A well-done take on the barley wine style. Rich, deeply complex flavors, and great sensory experiences with aroma and mouthfeel. This beer was tried two years+ after it's release date and seemed to age well, still packing plenty of punch and delivering exceptional flavors.
