Tonewood Brewing x The Seed Beer Co. -- Through Being Cool
    American brown ale
ABV: 5.5%; pouring temperature: 46.4 ℉; canning data: unknown
Source: @jonphisher (one of my favorites he sent)

Dark brown body, clear; fine head, about 1 1/2 fingers thick, semi-creamy and spongy. Smell made up of cocoa and dark grain husks; nutty; a hint of chocolate. Light roasted malt sweetness in the taste; light cocoa and toffee; nice bitterness with a touch of astringency. Medium body; soft and pillowy; semi-sweet overall with a bit more dryness in the finish.

The brewery did a fine job with this ale. Balanced and complex, malt-forward with a nice nutty and chocolate overall flavor with a nice dose of hop bitterness to round things off.

[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Paulaner Muncher Hell (4.8%): An original German Helles with flavors of earthy honey and German bread. Smooth.
    versus
    2) Fairstate Pils (5.1%): A German-style pilsner from Minnesota with flavors of lemongrass and crackers malts. A light and clean body with a bitter finish.

    3) Oskar Blues Thick Haze (7.0%): A hazy IPA from Colorado with flavors of sweet lemon, pineapple, mango. Cloying and hop burn on the finish.
    versus
    4) Sierra Nevada’s Hazy Little Thing (6.7%): A hazy IPA from California that has orange, lemon, citrus, and pineapple flavors. A crisp finish.

    5) Pearl Street Al Caporter (6.0%): A porter from Wisconsin with flavors of chocolate and strawberry milk with a clean and smooth finish.
    versus
    6) Castle Danger George Hunter Stout (8.0%): A Stout from Minnesota with flavors of dark chocolate, bread, and some dark fruits.
(All 3 of 3 pairs correctly matched blind)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    1) Paulaner Muncher Hell: This gets the win for a smooth malt profile and authentic German flavors. Fairstate was good too. This one has far smoother and less bitter being a helles.

    4) Sierra Nevada's Hazy Little Thing: This one has a nice crisp lemon with flower and pine notes on the finish. Incredibly clean, flowery, piney, yet still hazy. Oskar Blues was a disappointment being too cloyingly sweet with hop burn.

    5) Pearl Street Al Caporter: Not only a cool name, but this porter has strong flavors of strawberry and chocolate milk while maintaining a light and smooth finish. I usually like George Hunter, but this year it doesn't have the same kick.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you prefer a German Helles or German Pilsner?
Have you tried Oskar Blues Thick Haze IPA and were you equally disappointed?
Have you tried Pearl Street Al Caporter or any other Pearl Street beers?

Hope you get to try this on cask one day @Blogjackets !

@Chickenhawk9932 - Where did you get that Cheesesteak, or is it homemade? From what’s left of it, it looks pretty good!

    I (and @TheIPAHunter ) need to know!

Tonewood is doing really great stuff. They do a lot of IPAs well but what really shines is their true to style beers like the milds and German stuff

Fuck, I gotta stop reading about Ukraine, it’s breaking my heart. Focusing on trivial things, like how bitters are crazy underrated.

Homemade. I work at a meat packaging plant. I trimmed up a whole Top Butt (sirloin) on Saturday. I saved some smaller trimmings for cheesesteak.

Happy Monday Advocates! Thanx @ChicagoJ for the thread today. My last day at the job site was more physical than expected and I helped out another dude so no run today. Got home and more importantly removed ice from my driveway, pruned 2 trees and started in on these Pacifico Clara cervezas. Ice was 2.5" thick in the low spots. Didn't get it all. I find some Pacifico btls are 12oz true others are a bit shy. Hilarious! Even without a lime slice I like this beer. Yep. Light beers are a good thing for me sometimes.
Cheers y'all! We've got great things goin' on here..especially love! Keep on smiling!
