There was a thread about the line for beer labels and names a couple weeks back. While I still stand by what I said in that brewers should be able to brew a beer they see fit, and call it and label it as they please, I won’t be supporting this brewery or purchasing this beer. Cheers.

Unless the price is 'duvalish', I'm down for trying one or two.

I just saw this a few hours ago when snatching up some bottles of the original. I almost bought some, but it also mentions 6 types of hops + dry hopping. I'm usually not a huge fan of esters/phenols paired with heavy doses of hops, so I figure I'll wait for a store to sell singles.

Not that this should change things for you, but just in case you are unaware of the full branding context - Duvel is Dutch for devil… so this is an association for them that is old and wide. I imagine most consumers of their beer in the US are unaware of the translation, and some might think this new beer is either very odd or shocking as a result. The disconnect wouldn’t exist for a Belgian consumer.

Thanks for info, and no. It didn’t change anything for me. Cheers.

Many years ago I had a box sent to me by Merchant du Vin, then selling Duvel in the US. There were several big bottles of Duvel and a friend and I drank two fairly quickly. I learned early on that Duvel is very sneaky and the name is totally perfect. I also used to buy it on trains in Europe, and girls loved it! A little bit goes a long way.

Me neither- not a fan. But I also love Belgian blondes (not a corny joke about women..) and don't get to buy many in CO so ... I'll try it as soon as I can. Where did you find it good sir?

I don't know if you ever saw this particular Trooper beer due to your interests, but Robinsons went down the exact same variant path:

Curious way to promote a beer though. As we can see, the devil thing, even if just in jest, alienates some folks. Certainly draws some attention, as the marketers likely know.

    Duvel rules!
Just hope they didn't go overboard with the hops.

If a series of numbers is what worries people I don’t know what to say. Especially given the variance in reported vs. actual ABVs, as anything between 6% and 7% could in reality hit the mark (of the beast). Perhaps best to avoid all beers in those ranges?

(Disclaimer: I don’t know what the actual +/- variance is for ABV.)
