Hold the letter O down @Spade for O options, or for any letters special characters. It works on both my phone and desktop. Have you tried doing that?

I've had the Locust Lane Kolsch before, it was pretty decent.

    On a PC, ALT148 ö
Use the numeric keypad. Make sure NUM LOCK is on.

The touch and hold the "o" on the keyboard works on a phone. It brings up a menu with options.

Now we need a lesson on when an umlaut should be used.

I once read that it's often contentious in Germany -- the line I recall was something like, "You use your umlaut in your way, I'll use it in mine."

    Too many dialects.

Devil's Purse Kolsch is pretty good if you are looking for a Cape Cod option. I think it is pretty easy to find, or was...

Well based on my memory of 4 years of German class in high school 20 years ago...adding the umlaut to a, o, or u is just a shorthand way of writing the "ae", "oe", and "ue" vowels. So Kölsch would just be the commom way of writing Koelsch.

Tastes pretty much exactly how you’d think it would. Kinda sweet, grapefruity and easy to drink.

It's really more a signal for pronunciation -- which is where the contention I spoke of makes waves.

Gaffel uses month/day/year. Some imports use day/month/year which makes things confusing... so make sure you have the month right (although you probably do). Assume a best by duration of a year. That Gaffel was probably brewed in 2021. Regarding being "too old to use in the tasting," one could argue that if it's within the brewer's best by range, then it's fair game even if it's in bad shape. Whether or not you'd want to purchase it is purely a personal choice. Some would pass. I would buy it if it's the beer I wanted to drink. In my own experience, (barring beers that are designed to be aged for years) German beers from trusted brewers are probably the beers I'm least worried about when it comes to age sensitivities. When I say "least worried," I don't mean "not worried" though.

Side story regarding American beer rather than German: I remember one time when I was picking up an American brewed self-proclaimed Kölsch and I asked the store employee about stock freshness. He responded: "That's a Kölsch, they don't go bad." I still haven't had a single interaction at that store that has made me think, "I can trust these folks."
You are unintentionally(?) kicking the hornets' nest with that one. That debate can get ugly. Part of the issue is that the meaning of ale and lager isn't fixed or universal. Since nobody has ventured this take yet, I'll share my worthless one:

My main response is that the beer world isn't a binary one... my specific response is that Kölsch is a top-fermented lagerbier... and to play along, if I was forced to pick between the terms ale and lager, I'd pick lager (albeit most English language craft era beer guides would choose ale instead).
