At one time, I think these guys out of San Diego were supposed to be the next great thing, but it never really happened. Solid West Coast IPA here though.

I'm going to attempt to put the Stone rumors to rest for good. Yes, I miss the original recipe. It was perfect. As someone who managed at a very high level in the Navy, I've always been a proponent of the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" mantra. This iteration had nothing to do w/ making an existing beer better, it was simply about making a change well, for the sake of change. If the original version never existed, I'd probably say this was fantastic. I'm really happy that v1.1 still retains Chinook in the hop bill, too. So yes, while I've lambasted Mitch Steele for ever going this route, I still love drinking this beer as many should realize. Despite the use of new-age hops to give it more pronounced fruity characteristics on the front end, it still retains that wonderful bitterness mid-to-back palate that expresses everything the OG was celebrated for. Shout out to Greg & Steve. Love you guys. Cheers!
P.S. Go buy this beer -- now!

Been drinking Stone IPA for 20 years, I have even had it in their garden in Escondido. However, I have not had the new version. Still a little freaked out over the sellout.

[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Weihenstephaner Helles (4.8%): A German Helles introduced in 2020 for refined flavors of yeast, barley malts and a crisp and clean finish.
    versus
    2) New Glarus Two Women Lager (5.0%): A German-style helles from Wisconsin for flavors of lemonflower, grassy, smooth pale malts, and a yeasty finish.
    (Correctly matched these two blind)

    3) Weldwerks/BlackStack Loud Juice (7.6% canned 4/18/22): A NEIPA collab from CO/MN brewed with Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado, & Galaxy hops for tropical flavors of orange, tropical melon, honeydew, orange, and warm, tropical nectarines. Drinks sweet.
    versus
    4) BlackStack Loud Bits (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado, & Galaxy hops for flavors of orange, pineapple, green citrus, guava, mango, with a lightly bitter finish. (mismatched these two blind)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    1) Weihenstephaner Helles
: Has more authentic toasty and earthy Munich malt flavor. Released in 2020 as a new version of their original helles. I actually prefer this one and the lighter body.

    4) BlackStack Loud Bits: BlackStack did the collaboration Loud Juice with Weldwerksback in April. Then went home and tried to repeat it. If so, these should be extremely similar so tried them side by side. I preferred the BlackStack version. More green citrus and a cleaner and dryer drinkability. Ultimately I think both are improved on the original Juicy Bits.

I don't believe it's changed since the sellout - the new version took place a few years ago AFAIK.

Nothing has changed recently. @TheIPAHunter knows the details better than me.

Even though it's one of the 7 deadly sins, I envy you for where you live and the fact you have a gorgeous lake at your disposal. You are indeed a lucky soul and I'm glad you're enjoying you're retirement. Best to you and Emma!

I'm just asking a question here, and you should know that I love you based on all the Sip posts as well as your CT location. So, you haven't had Stone IPA in like 6 years?
