Never heard of it, so when I saw it...look what I found in the fridge!
I can't see the color(neither can you), but what I did catch whilst pouring looked appropriately light for a Festbier, but the taste is much more like a Märzen. Interesting. Strong malt character with both toast and citrus notes. An actual review will have to wait until I can give it the attention it deserves.

New beer from the best brewery in Maynard

Brewers notes: made with blue ox malt house pale, vyenna and Munich malts, valley malt chocolate rye, east Kent holding hops . In collaboration with boxcutter facelift

Pours a dark brown liquid with numerous micro carbonation streams and a one finger taupe foam cap that quickly dissipates, few lacings

    Aroma is figs, raisins

Taste~ the taste is fig, dark malts, chocolate, rye , muddy earth

    Earthy hop bitterness that lingers

Like barleywines but this is not one that I am appreciating all that much

[IMG] Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Surly Mazzafiato (5.0%): An Italian-style pilsner from Minnesota with flavors of lemon biscuit, orange spice, and buttery biscuit notes. Slightly sweeter.
    versus
    2) Fair State Pils (5.1%): A German-style pilsner from Minnesota with flavors of lemongrass, dry and grassy yeast, atop crackers malts. Clean and bitter.

    3) Hop Butcher The Jewels (7.5% canned 6/7/22): A NEIPA from Chicago with Mosaic and Vic Secret for flavors of milky pineapple, dusky, green citrus and banana. Minty with green citrus flower. Soft.
    versus
    4) Bearded Iris Wavelength (8.3% canned 6/13/22): A NEIPA from Tennessee with Vic Secret, Citra, and El Dorado flavors of tangerine and grapefruit citrus with some earthy stonefruit notes. Sweet.
    (Correctly matched both pairs blind)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Fair State Pils: Possibly has become my favorite German Pilsner from the US. The lemonflower flavor, balanced by the dry, bitter, and grassy yeast is superb.

    3) Hop Butcher The Jewels: A blast of Vic Secret and Mosaic. Green and flowery balanced with Asian tropical fruit. So soft and smooth. I really haven't been impressed with Bearded Iris and thought this might be different. Once again, I thought Bearded Iris was average at best here. However, The Jewels had the green, milky and flowery notes while being so soft and smooth. Hop Butcher is a blessing to this world.

Tomorrow, I'm going downtown to see an amazing sax player, Josh Redman play in his trio. He is the son of the great Dewey Redman, who was a long time sax sidemen for Keith Jarrett. I got lots of Josh's CD's buried somewhere I can't find at the moment, so I'm spinning some of Keith and Dewy's old albums.

Also, a new to me beer. North Coast Pacific Magic IPA. review below.

Right from the bottle, pours a crystal clear golden color. A dense white head rises, with excellent retention. Rings of lace are left all the way down the glass. This is a looker.
Aroma is citrus and grapefruit rind billows out of the glass immediately. Peppery spice, floral, with an English biscuit like malt character. Wonderful.
Taste wise, like the nose, that citrus and grapefruit burst out. Really fresh tasting, just a bit of pine resin. Peppery spice, lightly sweet biscuit like malt character. Finishes with the perfect amount of bitterness. This is really well done.
A medium body that is beautifully crisp and effervescent. Finishes wonderfully dry. Which all leads to this being really easy to drink. Incredibly moreish, and I'm looking for another way too quickly.

Simply, an excellent example of a classic West Coast IPA. So glad North Coast came out with this. When the great legacy breweries stop trying to play catch up to the latest craze, and just make a damn good IPA, its beautiful. Which is exactly what North Coast has done. I hope this sticks around.

Overall score is 4.29, easy A. I'm sure I'll add this to the NBW thread tomorrow.

    Now, some Keith and Dewey.
