Camba Island, a NEIPA from German brewery Camba Bavaria (6.6%).

This makes for a nice enough New England IPA that kinda lacks the soft mouthfeel and vibrant juiciness of the style, but has a good, kinda juicy, fruitiness to it, with some well-defined citrus and tropical notes.

I mowed my lawn today for the first time in over a month. After the little bit of rain we've had in the last couple of weeks my back yard needed it. The rest of the lawn is still crispy like shredded wheat but I mowed it anyways. We need more rain here.

I saw the pickle beer you posted earlier, I have a hard time wrapping my thoughts around that one - what does a pickle beer taste like? Honestly, it doesn't sound appetizing to me in the least but I know you have great taste in beer so there must be something to it.

We’re at Cold Spring Brewing in Cape May. It’s New Jersey’s only nonprofit brewery. It’s part of Cold Spring Village, which consists of numerous historic buildings relocated to this spot. It has the feel of a deep South Jersey, small-scale version of Williamsburg. Great docents!

Good afternoon, advocates. Settling in w/ a pint of Tesseract from Grimm. Very tasty, I might add. Not that I need to explain myself, but I will, ever so briefly. I don't condone the behavior raised in allegations against a certain brewer from Ardmore, PA. I also hate cancel culture. I'm from a different cloth; a different era. I also like IPAs. Cheers, and much love!

First up at Cold Spring Brewery: Finley Forge IPA. They call it West Coast but it’s more of a “southern” style malty, bitter ale without much citrus. I enjoy this type of IPA and this one is hitting the spot on a hot afternoon.

Fuck yea. As thick as engine oil but a hell of lot nicer. Masses of almond on those nose and taste, huge honeycomb hit coming through. Silky smooth.

Bottle to dome on this one. And a friend gave me a contact of an amateur filmmaker. I sent him my script. Let’s see if anything happens:

I've been cooking this sauce for dinner the last few hours. It smells great and I'm really getting hungry. It's definitely spicy too - Arrabbiata - has a tsp of Thai chilies in the sauce and another tsp in the meatballs as well.

Single Hop, a NEIPA from Swedish brewery Apex (6.5%).

This makes for a very nice single-hopped Citra NEIPA that shows off the signature flavor profile of the hop variety nicely, with some vibrant and well-defined zesty citrus and sweet tropical notes, as well as hints of grassy and dank accents.

Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Veltins Pilsener(4.8%): An authentic German Pils with flavors of pale Munich malts, honeysuckle, hints of lemonflower. A smooth finish.
    versus
    2) Jever Pilsener (4.9%): An authentic German Pils with flavors of pale malts, grainy, a grassy yeast, a bitter finish.

    3) BlackStack/EQ Stack at the Lab (8.4% no canning date): A NEIPA with Citra & Idaho 7 for flavors of pineapple, mango, berries, and a heavier, sweet finish.
    versus
    4) BlackStack Conducting Business (8.6% no canning date): A NEIPA with Amarillo, El Dorado, and Citra for flavors of tropical berries, pineapple, mango, and hints of berryflower before the sweet body.
(Correctly matched both pairs blind, honestly came down to a 50:50 guess for both)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Veltins Pilsener
: Probably my two favorite German Pilsners. Incredibly complex flavors, a rounded body, and smooth finish. Veltins comes in second with it's grassy, bitter, dry body.

    4) BlackStack Conducting Business: Very similar. They may have made the same beer here, but this one was probably 3 months fresher. Both were good with tropical berries, pineapple, subtle mango and floral notes. Pushes the limits for an IPA IMO, because at >8.5% the hop flavors are often lost among the malt and alcohol sweetness. Maybe that's why they tasted the same. I'm picky, but I do prefer them within the 6.5%-8.0% range.

Cold Spring Red, an Irish Red Ale and the brewery’s flagship. Like the IPA I just drank, it’s solid and enjoyable. This is a fun little brewery that contributes to the important cause of preserving local history. We’ll definitely be back!
