Ahh... a long multi-reply that I don't do quite as much as I used to...

Not really much other than that, maybe some whiskey thrown in.. It's a little sad that one of your local breweries had to produce the Hokie beer vs one from Blacksburg or something. We've got to handle one of the universities from your city this weekend before worrying about losing to VaTech later this fall.

The GF got a couple of Wilmington Brewing beers on our vacation to Myrtle Beach. We thought they were above average to quite good. Nice to see someone else potentially confirm our thoughts.

Jeez, given seasonal creep, I'm guessing that was probably canned in May, right?

We enjoyed a nice meetup at Wolf's Ridge with some BAs what has to be five or more years ago. I inadvertently stole @LeperJim's beer; don't tell him they were quite delicious. Their cream ale series was interesting, are they still experimenting with that (if you know)?

Your life is as exciting as mine, and I'm not really complaining.

A beer that might've come into existence when you were nearer the brewery:


It was originally an accidental California Common (steam) beer, now marketed as an American lager. I have a soft spot for it and was sorta upset I couldn't find it fresh a few months ago. A little age, but that hasn't caused any enjoyment loss - maybe should've grabbed two four packs.

I’m really digging this pint of Beer for Bowling from my man @zid (thanks again!). Right up my alley (pun semi-intended). Described as an “English style session beer aged with wood.” Very flavorful for a 4% beer. Warms my heart.

 

Port City Derecho Lager. Is that the same beer as Port City Derecho Common, beer I had years ago? If it was known as a California Common than it probably was.

So, they seem to be indicating that the same techniques are being used, but they are now calling it a lager. I'm a bit confused and while I could maybe see the marketing aspect given lagers no longer being shunned and common/steam beers being "things of the past" - I wonder if it is the same. It tastes pretty close based to my memory (however well that thing can be trusted), but I may have to query the brewery.

None of this changes my enjoyment of what's currently in my glass.
