Just had a torrential downpour for like two minutes. Enough to pass the mosquitoes off. Still grilling. Hamms. Cheers!

Tonight's Labor Day Blind Märzen Lineup:

    1) 3 Sheeps Oktoberfest (5.5%):
A Märzen from Wisconsin for flavors of smooth bread, caramel mixed with earthy and toasty malts. Somewhat floral. Complex and dynamic.
    versus
    2) Great Lakes Oktoberfest (6.5%): A Märzen from Ohio with flavors of bread, honey, light toast. Robust, but balanced and rounded.
    versus
    3) Summit Oktoberfest (6.5%): A Märzen from Minnesota with flavors of bread malts, some caramel, and lots of booze. Heavy and astringent.
    versus
    4) Sam Adams (5.3%): A Märzen from Boston with flavors of rich bread malt, red and cherry spice, amber malts with a cinnamon roll spice on the finish. (mismatched #1 and #1 blind)

    5) Elm Creek Sustained Illusion (6.5% canned 6/29/22): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Citra & Enigma for flavors of lemon/lime citrus with some astringent citrus cleaner notes. Dry and clean.
    versus
    6) BlackStack Shine On (6.9% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Citra, Simcoe Cryo, Cascade and Phantasm for flavors of tropical and sweet pineapple flavors.
    (correctly matched blind)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Märzen Ranking:

    1) 3 Sheeps Oktoberfest:
What a winner amongst the four. This one has a citrus and bread spice flavor that sort of rocks the palate. Earthy, citrusy, yet a Märzen. Sort of reminds me of Sierra Nevada. R.I.P.
    2) Sam Adams Oktoberfest: Consistently do it the same every year, and are rightly among the best. The red fruit and cherry spice gives it such a unique and pleasant fall twist here. The more the weather cools, the better this one drinks.
    3) Great Lakes Oktoberfest: Traditionally one of my favorites. Very balanced and rounded, but hasn't quite done it for me this year ...yet, but I've got a pack so more are coming.
    4) Summit Oktoberfest: For creating such great beers, this one seems to drop the ball. Cloying, sweet malts. Boozy without a whole lot of flavor.

    IPA Winner:

    6) BlackStack Shine On: This one mixes the Citra with Phantasm well. Combines for a sweet and tropical pineapple flavor. Yet, a light and clean body. Nothing extraordinary, but nails all of the fundamentals of what a NEIPA should be.

Hey, BA! Was very fortunate to take a trip to Dogfish Head today with my old man. Had one of their R&D beers - a Black IPA called Rumors of My Demise. Tasty stuff I’ll always grab this style

About to start grilling in the rain. But thought to have a Jack’s Abby Pre Pro pilsner. They say it is a pre prohibition American style pilsner. Pretty good.

Really liked this one. It is a tad sweet. But earthy as hell with Simcoe.[IMG]

Interesting - it looks like an old war relic or something. It is pretty cool looking, that's why I had to ask. Cheers!

    Some stats and data.

The treehouse was conceived and created by the Oakland, CA based artist Sean Orlando and the Five Ton Crane Arts Group in 2007 (more on the artists). The interactive large-scale project debuted at the Burning Man event in Black Rock City, NV in late August of that year. The Tree is 40' tall, 40' wide, weighs 8 tons, and was crafted in part from recycled and reclaimed materials.

According to lead artist Sean Orlando, "the Steampunk Treehouse was made to explore the relationship between our rapidly changing natural world and the persistent human drive to connect with it and one another. It is our second nature."

We at Dogfish stumbled across the Treehouse online and began a dialogue with the artists. When we learned they were looking for a permanent home for their sculpture we knew it was meant to be! Two off-centered crews coming together.

Orlando and the 5-Ton crew arrived at the Milton brewery in June of 2010 for the installation. We had a great time getting to know them and watch their magic happen! On June 25th, we smashed a bottle of Life & Limb against the door and officially made Dogfish the new home of The Steampunk Treehouse.

The Steampunk Treehouse can be viewed and enjoyed by all the folks visiting the brewery. Access to the interior of the Tree House is limited to our Dogfish co-workers as we use the space to share ideas in a creative environment; in essence it is our off-centered safety tree.

    Wanna know more?
