Onto the last round of the day, my last Boulevard BBQ. Has held up nicely since purchased last year; best by 13APR2023. Will have to pick up more down the road as the Boulevard yeast strains are legit, a fine beer!
    Cheers!

Dogfish Head Brewing Co. -- Wake Up World Wide Stout
    Ale with natural flavors
    ABV: 16-18%; pouring temperature: 42 °F; bottling data: D2492181811
    Source: @jzeilinger; venue: living room

Opaque, dark brown (nearly black) body; one-finger thick head, light brown color, dense and creamy. Excellent mocha and light chocolate aroma; dark roasted malt and coffee. Incredible coffee flavors riding atop the imperial stout base; fine underlying sweetness; moderately intense spiciness; moderate booziness; coffee ground bitterness. Heavy body; some alcohol warmth offsetting the malt sweetness; fairly bold dryness from the coffee and alcohol.

The current Dogfish Head web site lists the ABV at somewhere within the range of 16-18%. Besides the coffee, cinnamon, applewood, and maple syrup are listed in the ingredients. I don't get much of the cinnamon or apple wood, but the maple syrup flavor does seep through. For such a high ABV, the alcohol is actually pretty well masked within the beer. I mean, the alcohol level is present, but it doesn't come through as overly powerful or dominating within the overall flavor profile. So, yes, the coffee presence really shines, some maple syrup notes are readily apparent. The mouthfeel isn't too thick or sludgy. Overall, I like the beer. If I come across another bottle, I'll have to try aging it as DFH notes the beer should be an excellent candidate for aging.

    Pouring temperature: 42 °F; bottling data: D2492181811

...had these two videos lined up from yesterday (there was an earlier Red Skelton video I posted then but didn't get a chance to post the following videos yesterday)...

Yeah, I was looking for kind of a raw bluesy feel to it. I could probably do another take on it but I learned a long time ago that the first take is usually the one that best represents what I was looking for. Each subsequent take is just different, not necessarily better. That one was basically written around the background guitar riff you hear in the intro. I may do an alternate take after some Black Mamba

The thing I like about getting a little stoned and recording is that it frees the mind and you just play without the usual inhibitions. To me, playing is like having a dialog with the instrument. I don't come up with canned licks or anything, I just play off the top of my head. I basically come up with an idea and then see where it leads me. If I did that same tune with @tasterschoice62 and my bass player Kevin, it would probably be totally different.

...love the rolling, slow-groove thing you got going on with 'Black Mamba'...restraint and nothing forced...tasteful...

On the one hand it's been a frustrating week at work and Mrs. Mac is down in North Carolina for our daughter's bridal shower. On the other hand I've been nursing an old-fashioned head cold all week and feel crummy. Oh well, something's gotta give. Cheers to the weekend, BAs!

Anchors Christmas ale was tasting pretty good when I had it when it first dropped this season. The Yule shoot your eye out I had earlier today tastes like a watered down version unfortunately.

Idk if it's me but the chelada brews fuck my stomach up badly every time. Love the Sol chelada brews we get but damn do they fuck my stomach up. Cheers!

I've never had the Anchor or Great Lakes Christmas Ales, so I'm really looking forward to them. I was going to grab some Rolling Rock, but I wanted the small bottles for nostalgic reasons. Veltins has new packaging and the best buy on that 4 pack is May

According to the can, the Mr Wong in question helped launch the local banana-growing industry, so it probably makes some local sense.

There was also a Mr Wong who starred in American Express Travellers Cheques ads in Australia back in the 80s. He was constantly called upon to remedy clumsy tourists' loss of their travellers cheques. So slightly more context there too!

    Cheers!
