Today must be Stout Monday for me.
Jack And The Bean Stout - Jack Pine Brewing - Baxter, MN - American Stout - 5.3% ABV

This beer packs a lot of flavor and body into a 5.3% shell.

Picked up at the on 2-26-2023, canned on 2-19-2023. 750ml crawler.

Pitch black pouring beer. The head is 2 finger, and tan. The head retention is decent, and there's no lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The nose has a nice coffee and vanilla aroma. Very decent amount of these aromas.
Taste - The vanilla is the starter to this beer and this flavor lingers throughout. Coffee hits toward the middle and these two flavors blend to finish off this beer. I also get a roasty dark chocolate flavor that hits on the backside.
You'd think the body is thin for a 5.3% beer, but it isn't. It is quite full, and smooth.
    This is solid and delicious.

    1) Summit Oatmeal Stout (4.7%):
An Oatmeal Stout from Minnesota with flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa hazelnut, moderate roast. Clean, carbonated and smooth.
    versus
    2) Toppling Goliath Rover Truck (5.7%): An Oatmeal Stout from Iowa with flavors of bittersweet English chocolate, hazelnut, mild roast. Clean and dry. (Mismatched the two blind)

    Winner:
    1) Summit Oatmeal Stout:
Toppling Goliath does a lot of things well, but this is not one of them. Some dark chocolate and roast, but flat. Summit was far better and a well-made oatmeal stout. Nice milk chocolate, hazelnut and smooth oat flavors and mouthfeel. Summit is sometimes hit or miss, but this one is a hit.

Tilted Barn makes some glorious concoctions. I loved when they were right down the road from the OG Proclamation location. There was also a cheesesteak spot in between that wasn't authentic Philly, but they had their own distinct vibe. Tilly's, I think.

Best by 2014 (month has worn away), so, bottled in 2011. A kind gift from my sister-in-law. Poured from a 330mL bottle into my Westvleteren chalice. 10.2% ABV. Served at 55F.

Chestnut/burnt umber liquid with copper/caramel highlights and a small beige cap receding quickly to a lasting collar. Adequate retention; fine lacing; delicate yet viscous legs.

Lovely rich malty/estery aromatics suggest plum, fig, date, toffee, and an old European cobbler's shop. Weighty yet perfectly integrated and inviting. No perceptible oxidation.

Flavor follows the nose but is joined by a low earthy bitterness and some suggestions of brandy and eucalyptus. Long, linear, medium-dry finish. Rounded and rich with some complex stewed fruit elements.

Modest carbonation, but holding up well given the age. Slightly thin and quite warming.

More than the sum of its parts, and still a top tier example of the style, though I look forward to updating this review one day with a fresh bottle.
