What beer are you drinking now? #4148

Just signed off work for the day - having a real beer since it's pretty low in ABV at 4.2%
Ordered tickets today to see Larry Carlton on May 17 - I think this is his final tour, really looking forward to it!

For guitar nerds - notice he's playing one his Sire H7 (335 style). I have a white one, fantastic guitars.

 

1) Toppling Goliath Broccoli Special Reserve (8.3% canned 1/23/24): A NEIPA from Iowa with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Blanc for flavors of mango, sweet orange, pineapple, and lychee
versus
2) 3 Sheeps Warmer Days Ahead (9.0% canned 2/9/24): An IPA from Wisconsin with Nelson and Rakau for flavors of orange juice, grapefruit, stonefruit, and some dank herbs. Sweet. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
1) Toppling Goliath Broccoli Special Reserve: Imperial IPA Battle. First is Toppling Goliath Broccoli Special Reserve. Great hop combo with the addition of Blanc. These flavors pop and I've reviewed this a number of times over the past few days.
Next is 3 Sheeps Warmer Days Ahead. Great hop combo of Nelson and Rakau. I guess I mistook this for Riwaka. A little Nelson shines, but overall the aromas and flavors are more mild. I'm starting to prefer either a full on WCIPA bitterness or a juicy DDH IPA nowadays. This one drinks more traditional. It's alright, but nothing special. I'll still pick up just about every 3 Sheeps beer I can find though because they are usually gems.

Time for an IPA. Hop Valley Alpha Centauri Imperial IPA. 9%

A nice enough beer from the new mixed 12 pack from Sam Adams aka Boston Beer Company.
Pretty tame after that last one I enjoyed from Russian River.

As per the bottle "Long before the days of refrigeration, brewers cut ice from rivers and lakes to cool their fermentation cellars. When August Schell carved the brewery out of the New Ulm hillside, he built caves under the brewery and used them to cool beer into the 1900s. Our cave-aged barrel-aged lager spends months in those same caves in barrels because sometimes the old ways are the best ways."



Love it every year when this beer shows up.

This is a rare miss from Saint Arnold for me. Grand Prize is described as a classic American lager. More like Michelob Ultra. Comes in at 4.2 and 100 calories. Will sell well at the Houston Rodeo.

 

Having an Archaic Archetype Saison at Ornery Beer Company in Bristow, VA.
Fairly dry start to finish, opens more fruity, closes spicy, zesty and bitter. Mild Belgian yeast character. A solid Saison, in my novice opinion
