Surprisingly, nothing has changed with my impressions of the beer from a year ago. There is no head, decent aroma, pretty favorable taste, and an okay mouthfeel - just like last year's offering.

The lack of any head, this year and last, is truly a mystery. There is some carbonation to be seen in the glass, but not even wispy ring appears (and I tried two different clean glasses). Well, it does taste great.

    2.75 3.5 4.0 3.5 3.5; BA weighted overall score: 3.66; rDev: 0%

ABV: 5.4%; pouring temperature: 40 °F; crowler canning info: 09/25/23
    Source: from the brewery

Clear, dark amber / copper color; no perceivable carbonation and no lasting head. Light notes of caramel and toasted grain sweetness on the nose. Fantastic malt-forward taste profile; toasted grain sweetness; light nuttiness; very little hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body; smooth and sublimely sticky; light touch of overall dryness.

Taste-wise, this is a great Oktoberfest / märzen beer, but the looks fail with no carbonation or head (perhaps a draft pour would change things). The lack of carbonation also impacts the mouthfeel. It's rich enough yet needs a touch of carbonation to offset the residual sugar heaviness. Perhaps the crowler canning negatively impacted some of the sensory elements of this beer. That is a shame, because if one judged a beer merely on flavor, this one is a winner.
