What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #4358

So, it should come as no surprise to you that I came to find out I'd run the local regional distributor out of Pilsner Urquell single-handedly!

2.5 weeks without a bottle available has yielded the expected jump in BB dates, now into April 2025 (cc: @gatornation). Close to the freshest bottles I've obtained, missed by 2ish weeks.

It's delectable of course!!

Guests coming for fire @4pm, so gotta get that set up and lit up...

Still my favorite American Oktoberfest.

 

1) BlackStack Crowd Control (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Mosaic, Cashmere & Strata for flavors of grapefruit, pineapple, strawberry, green melon, and mango
versus
2) Elm Creek Hybrid Minds BlackStack (9.0% no canning date): A NEIPA collab from Minnesota with HBC 638, YCH 702, HBC 638, HBC 586 and 586 Cryo for flavors of mango, guava, lychee, pineapple, and melon. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

Winner: Elm Creek Hybrid Minds
BlackStack/Elm Creek NEIPA Battle. First is BlackStack Crowd Control. Nice Mosaic and Strata combo. Sweet orange, tropical melon, and mango. Leans sweet.
Next is Hybrid Minds a collab between Elm Creek and BlackStack. A variety of hops here. Very complex and zesty citrus and tropical flavors. Guava, lychee, grape. An excellent array of hop flavors and these hops need some names. Hides the alcohol well for the ABV. This is a deceptively excellent imperial IPA. What a fantastic collaboration and the best of the Hybrid Minds four-pack from Elm Creek.

 

Enjoying what i would call an East meets West DIPA from Thin Man in Buffalo and listening to Da Boss Pop Rocks on Sirius XM.

Stone IPA (6.9% canned 6/3/2024): A West-coast IPA with flavors of bitter lemon, apricot, orange, and resinous pine. Bitter and resinous

Following @TheIPAHunter and @LarryV with another Stone IPA. Working through this six pack because I saw a more recent drop in a local store, so will have to get through these and pick up the fresh pack.
@ChicagoJ Tank 7 is a gem of a beer. Underrated and probably Boulevard's best. It has deceptive qualities that may convert you to Saisons.
@AdmiralOzone Great Lakes has traditionally been one of my favorite Oktoberfests as well. I picked up a couple this year and almost tried one today, but Stone won out. This is 3+ months, sat warm, still excellent stuff.

My last batch of stone (12 pack) was pretty fresh and it definitely makes a difference. The closer you get to the best by date, you start to notice a bit of a change, mainly less hops and more malt.

Glad to hear that you completed the transaction, I can understand how that would be a bitter sweet deal, but at least it's done now and one less thing you have to worry about. At least you have the memories to fall back on - cheers my friend!
