I haven't had near enough time to really get into this book. As I have said before, Niall Williams is amazing, but I have been running all over creation to get ready for Christmas. About to drive up to Illinois next week, but there has been an endless amount of "things" I have had to take care of in the mean time.

Anyway, finally getting to wind down a bit at one of my favorite Vietnamese spots, Hughies. With a Live Oak Hefe, and savoring every page that Williams writes.



Then a Yellow Rose and Shaking Beef Specialty, which is about as Houston as it gets...



I need some tunes now...

I love that song, saw Russell play at a dive bar in Carbondale, IL when I was going to college at SIU. He played for three hours straight, without a word, just kept on playing. This was the early 2000's or so, so not exactly in his youth, but he still had ridiculous stamina and chops. It was a great concert.

 

Tequila shot with a Captain's Daughter DIPA. Gonna bitch for a sec, this is the second time Half-Time Beverage has sent me this beer at over 4 months old. This one was canned on 7-25-24, I'll never order Grey Sail from them again. Also if other brand dates start to drift out over 4 weeks old, I'll be done with them.

I hear ya. I have a similar issue with Total Wine. Sometimes I think they believe a year old IPA sitting on a hot shelve is ok. It ages it I guess.

 

Total Wine sucks (or at least the ones around me), I do everything to avoid going there ha. It is amazing how my local bottle shop with a 10th of the space, probably less, has a way better selection and fresh.
