What beer are you drinking now? #4450

We had a nice family Christmas yesterday and today promises to be quiet and relaxing.

Hardywood Pappy's Pumpkin Pie pumpkin ale

 

1) Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest (6.0%): A Festbier from California with flavors of floral and piney hops, earthy German malts. Hoppy, malty and smooth.
versus
2) Modist The Time Is Nigh (5.2%): A Festbier from Minnesota aged in oak barrels for flavors of pale Munich malts, some. honey and floral notes with some hints of earthy oak. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Festbier Battle. First is Sierra Nevada. Bready with hints of honey and citrus. Pretty good this year.
Next is Modist The Time Is Nigh. Oak-aged, slight earthy notes. Lightly toasted. Modist was one of my favorites when fresh, but today I think the Sierra Nevada is holding up and drinking better.
Winner: Sierra Nevada

Hey, BA! Hope everyone is well, and a good portion of you get some time off until next year.

Dropped the kids off at my parents house so my wife and i could clean up and do some cooking for later.

She's cleaning and i'm cooking...luckily the smoker does most of the work so i'm watching a rather uninspired Man United game drinking a Trillium Rink. Doing a proper review on this now, i'm actually not as impressed with it as i was the other night. oh well!

Allende - Agave Lager


I can't get enough of these guys.

 

1) Drekker Metaphase (8.2% canned 11/18/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Citra & Nelson Sauvin for flavors of lemon and orange citrus, green citrus and juicy pine.

2) WeldWerks Extra Extra Juicy Bits ( 8.4% canned 10/8/24): A NEIPA from Colorado with Citra, Mosaic, and El Dorado for flavors of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, melon, berries, and mango. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Drekker vs WeldWerks IPA Battle.
First is Drekker Metaphase. Trying this one a lot recently. Outstanding blend of Citra and Nelson for a sweet, but bright white grape flavor.
Next is WeldWerks Extra Extra Juicy Bits. I've always thought their original Juicy Bits was sort of a dissapointment. This is an imperial and DDH version. Standard Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado. Nothing too fancy, but the flavors blend well and are bright yet complex. Very good.
Still, Drekker gets the edge here and one of their best.
Winner: Drekker Metaphase

With these beer battles I used to find every new beer I could, but I ended up drinking beers I didn't like as much, and reviewing every beer even ones I didn't like became laborious. Over time I've started focusing more on my favorites so many of these battles have the same beers or are repeated.

I'm going to bring a third beer into this battle for comparison...

 

WeldWerks DDH Juicy Bits (6.8% canned 10/9/24): A NEIPA from Colorado with Citra, Mosaic, and El Dorado for flavors of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and mango.

Another WeldWerks IPA. A DDH Juicy bits. Milder than the Extra Extra Juicy bits, but packs nearly as much flavor. This is probably my favorite of the Juicy Bits bunch. The Extra Extra Imperial is a close second, and the original seems to let itself get passed by.
