I saw you can also buy it direct from the brewery if you're in the right state.

Love that glass. It reminds me of my HB branded Willi Becher-like half liter.

Kukko Pils from Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas in Laitila. It's a heavily-hopped, full-malt, 4.5% Pilsner brewed with water, malted barley (Pilsner, Caramel Pale), hops (Northern Brewer, Hersbrücker), and yeast. Fruity, floral, spicy, herbal, and a bit raw with some bready and honey malts. Easy drinking, and easy to find in Finland.

Human Robot Brewing (Philadelphia, PA) - Forest Brothers

    Labeled as a "Baltic Pilsner":
Very tasty - great balance between the pilsner malt flavor and the pleasantly fragrant hops. Get some mild berry aroma in the hops. Drier finish, but with a softer mouthfeel

The first beer I had from start to finish was a "Leinies Red" in the summer of '66, probably not close.....

Typo? This article from the local paper says Leinenkugel Red was first released in 1993 (after the brewery was under Miller ownership).

'93 was a bit early for the "red beer" fad, which appears to have become a national phenomenon circa 1995, when most US macro and large regionals had one or more "red beers".

I remember Leinie's pushing back on Killian's in advertising with a tagline "The Better Red."

Funny, Leinie's being from Wisconsin -- just like Tailgunner Joe.

But so was Frank P. Zeidler

Yeah, never made a deep drive into the history of that Red Beer Fad, as far as who was first but my favorite story is that Anheuser-Busch "heard" (industrial spies!) that Miller was working on a beer branded Red Dog so they rushed some Red beers to the market, Red Wolf being the most successful (maybe?) only to find out once it was released that Miller's Red Dog was just a standard AAL, aimed at the Budweiser drinker...:astonished:

Yeah, but did he have a catchy slogan like, "Better Red Than Dead?"

Kukko Lager from Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas in Laitila.

It’s a lively, lightly-hopped (grassy, lemony), full-malt (bready), 4.7% lager. Ingredients: water, malted barley (Pilsner), hops (Magnum, Saaz), and yeast. Wish I bought another one, but I've got a couple of other Laitilan beers to drink tonight.

@Todd -- I'm enjoying the reviews of these rather obscure beers. Didn't know Suomi had so many breweries. Keep 'em coming!

Yeah, we've got a solid number given the relatively small population (5.6 million). Lots of excellent lagers too!

Kukko Helles from Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas in Laitila, Finland.

Finnish: "Pehmeän Maukas Vaalea Lager" or a "Soft Tasty Light Lager." And that's what this 5% Helles is. Soft, creamy, biscuity, herbal, and leafy, with a light honey finish. And damn tasty! Ingredients: water, malted barley (Finnish: Pilsner, Caramel Pale), hops (German: Magnum, Perle), and yeast. I need more of this beer in my life.

A lot of cocoa, coffee, vanilla up front, with some raisin and plum aroma in the background. Caramel and molasses sweetness from all the toasted malt. A little bitterness on the back to round it out. Medium body, but feels refreshingly light without coming off as thin or watery. Just a well-executed dunkel all around.

Once this pack is done I'll jump back to a doppelbock for my dark winter brew...see if I can find Delicator or Troegenator, and do a comparison to my previously tasted Celebrator and Salvator. Or maybe get Celebrator again because it's just that good.

Glass looks like a dumbbell, so you can count it as a workout while you drink.
