Side Project Brewing (2025)

Horchata generally infers cinnamon… it’s confusing. Look up the drink or the other Horchata stout on their menu.

 

It’s not confusing. It’s the name of a base beer that was brewed two years ago. Long before the can release. Y’all just over complicate everything.

 

Horchata has been a traditional beverage served long before Side Project was ever a brewery.

 

Cinnamon, rice, vanilla and sugar immediately spring to mind. I thought the same as you.

 

Not sure why this is controversial: SP never referred to Horchata as a base beer recipe until now. Even the blog post word for word says: “We will have 4 beers from our new Double Barrel Finished series, all were our Horchata recipe racked into Willett Family Estate 9 yr Bourbon Barrels in 2023. At maturity, each barrel was transferred to fresh Willett 4 yr Bourbon Barrels for their double barrel aging.”


100% reasonable for people to think it’s a cinnamon stout. Even in line over the weekend people thought it was a group of DB Cinnamon stouts.

 

Went to one of the many Side Project launch events in Wisconsin (Menomonee Falls) yesterday. They brough beers for draft pours (Continuance Blend 4, Punchdown Chambourcin Blend 2 & Backpack Fashion Show) along with bottles for pours of OWK 2023, MJK 2024 and 10 year Barleywine. Corey came too and he was super nice and very personable. I got to chat with him for a bit and he made his way around the whole busy room and stopped to talk to all the tables. Certainly have been to events where the rep just sits like a bump on a log like it's a chore. We aren't going to get bangers like that on our shelves but I'll be interested to see what lands. They had some stuff for sale too but bottles were all white labels and didn't see what the cans were but they were sitting so must not have been anything too wild.

 

I guess yall assume DDH broccoli has broccoli in it too.

I didn’t see anywhere it said they were releasing DB horchata or BA Horchata. I must have missed those emails.

 

Probably wouldn't complain if LC at least had a chance at these bottles.

And yes, I post angrily about businesses that lure people in with "exclusive" memberships with a precedence that was set from earlier memberships only to cater to the public / what makes them the absolute most money.

They have a right to do what they want as a business and I have a right to not support them. But I also have the right to voice my opinion when I'm not pleased with a business's practices.

Anyone who doesn't like what I have to say can just move on. I'm sorry that my complaints annoy you but I don't like to stand by and say nothing when things are not the way they should be.

 

He's a real good dude. Him and his wife are good people. They blend in like the regular workers and get around and ask what we needed.

You’ve already said they can’t retain you as a customer. Sounds like it’s you that needs to move on. Take your own advice.

You're right. It does feel less exclusive when members aren't "inclusive" to all of the special bottles are released. Since there are so many out of towners, that membership fee represents our best legitimate shot at getting those beers.

I've complained too, but i am leaning towards keeping my membership if offered. I'm hoping things will improve. It sorta still feels like a privilege to have it.

 

They can put it beside the “grown men acting like babies” button.

 

Yeah, weird for people to think the brewery that’s known for using thoughtful amounts of cinnamon in every beer releasing a beer recipe that’s named after a cinnamon drink might have put cinnamon in it.

 

I guess we would both need that button?

 

Has a single SP base beer recipe ever contained an adjunct? (This is actually a question and not a smart ass remark).

 

And I plan on doing so. But that does not mean I can't voice my frustration with this brewery so that others thinking about joining can make the best decision and potentially avoid the same frustration.

Again, if you don't like my complaining, I think you should be the one that moves on.

 

If you have the right to act like an entitled baby, then I have the right to tell you you’re acting like an entitled baby.

 

Name calling really shows that you can't have a civil conversation and also shows that you've lost. And yes, I'd like to think there is some degree of entitlement when I've supported the business for years and paid to be in the membership.

I guess anyone protesting something they don't agree with and you don't mind, are just cry babies?

 

Yes, and I hear Space Diamonds has real diamonds in it.
