What beer are you drinking now? #4522

Mise en place for beef and broccoli stir fry, but I'm substituting some gifted venison. The beer is going in me, not the dinner.

 

Surly Barrel-Aged Darkness 2024 (12.0% canned 1/2024): A BBA Russian Imperial Stout from Minnesota with flavors of rich chocolate and bourbon, some vanilla and dried cherry. Earthy and rich.

First try at this BBA version of Darkness, one of the best Russian Imperials out there. This is ranked #19 in the Russian Imperial Stout category on BeerAdvocate. It's enhanced with bourbon. Has the classic rich chocolate notes upfront, then evolves into earthy and rich bourbon flavors. Some dried cherry. Earthy and rich bourbon lingers. Finish is heavy, sweet, rich, but hides the alcohol well. Nice, robust and complex bourbon flavors.
Amazing can art and brewery. This has a lot of bourbon which is a bit strong for my tasted, but I'm warming up to. Such a cool beer.

Drinking a Dos Equis Lager while waiting on a takeout order. Damn thing tastes like water. Violated one of my lager beer rules and did use the lime. Oh well.

Kicking off the weekend with this 3 Floyds Munsterfest. They finally landed St. Louis distribution this week. This was imported via a friend prior to then.

 

Done with the spring cleaning for the day. Phew, I'm pooped. This is my last one of these, and it's well deserved.
This is my favorite domestic Fest style beer that I've had. It just hits all the the proper notes. Victory can still brew some solid lagers.

Many thanks, guys - Mom is resting comfortably in hospital - they denied her going to skilled nursing for PT, saying she is too "high functioning" and doesn't need therapy.....so she will likely go home in a few days, and do some home therapy and in home hospice care, etc

A pretty good IPA.

 

It’s one of my favorite R.E.M. tunes for sure. It deserved to be paired with a better beer

 

I yelped when I saw this at my local earlier today because I love the OG. This might be better, IMHO - the grapefruit terpenes referenced on the can come across as ruby red grapefruit, which I absolutely LIVE, and there’s also ripe tangerine and some sweet oats, with no sign of the 9% ABV.

Until you try to stand up. World class, again IMHO.

 

Speaking of venison, I just finished the last of the venison bologna my son-in-law gave me. Time to take the couple of venison summer sausages out of the freezer. I am spoiled.
