Happy Saturday, everyone. While running errands I’ve stopped at Diamond Spring Brewing in Denville for the first time in ages considering how close to home it is. Having a pint of Flanagan’s Red, which is surprisingly bitter for the style. Cheers!

 

Second pour at Diamond Spring Brewing: Just the (Spruce) Tip. Sadly, it’s a mess. Not enough spruce and too much charred bitterness. I really want to like this brewery (I’ve lived nearby all my life) but it’s not in the same league as Autodidact or Double Tap.

Milkshake IPA is not my jam, but SRV is.

1) Kostritzer Schwarzbier (4.8%): A German Schwarzbier with flavors of dark grains, cocoa, earthy Munich malts. Clean
versus
2) Arbeiter Nacht Rider (4.9%): A Schwarzbier from Minnesota with flavors of dark chocolate, grains, smooth cocoa. Bitter and roasty. (Correctly matched the two blind)

German Schwarzbier Battle. First is Kostritzer. Authentic. Dark Munich malts. Clean. Excellent and drinkable.
Next is Arbeiter. Similar, but a stronger cocoa note. Also more roasted and bitter. Tons of flavor here and the roasted bitterness is superb. Arbeiter always putting out some of the best German lagers. They make my favorite German Pilsner, now schwarzbier.
Winner: Arbeiter Nacht Rider

Coached my daughter’s lacrosse games this morning, even though there was a thunderstorm and it was 35 degrees with wind. We just played through it…girls were tough, but I froze my arse off.

Was pleasantly surprised to see an old favorite at the store…we don’t get much Alesmith out here. Thought Joe Jost was an appropriate glass.

Good afternoon, fellow advocates! Dining in today with a Red Baron deep-dish pepperoni pizza, paired with the first of my Untitled Art NA Mix Pack: Juicy IPA. I had high expectations for this and was not in the least disappointed. Big aromas and flavors of juicy hops, with grapefruit, orange, pine, and zesty and resiny bitterness. Crisp and clean, with some citrus zest lingering on the palate. 55 calories, 12 carbs, 5 sugars. Cheers!

 

Currently at Washington Park. Watching some little goats rough house with each other. Drinking a 50 West Brewing Company Maibock.
