Starting light with a Hop Butcher Yutori Dry Rice Lager (HRC-004). This is their first crack at a rice lager. Super crushable with just a touch of experimental hop character to keep it interesting. Very enjoyable. More thoughts over on NBW.

 

Brewery ARS - Woolen Jumper (Dark Mild)

Dark Mild! Nice!

 

1) Arbeiter Gestalt (4.8%): An Altbier from Minnesota with flavors of brown bread, caramel, toasted and spiced notes.
versus
2) Arbeiter Nacht Rider (4.9%): A Schwarzbier from Minnesota with flavors of dark chocolate, grains, smooth cocoa. Clean. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Arbeiter Battle. First is their Gestalt, their Altbier. First try at this. Some nice toasted and spiced notes. Very accurate and nicely done for the style that I don't come across super often.
Next is Nacht Rider, their Schwarzbier. Dark, toasted, bitter and clean. Excellent for the style as well.
I think their Schwarzbier is better for the style, but since I don't drink altbiers often I am really enjoying this change of pace. Either way whatever it is from Arbeiter it's going to be top quality. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries in Minnesota.
Winner: Arbeiter Nacht Rider

Happy Sunday ba. A rather late night for us getting home. So I’m easing back into it here. Reve, coffee stout, Parish. Single bottle grab and I’m pretty certain I’ve had it before. Rather dry and smooth feel with steady notes of bitter/semi sweet coffee grinds. Subtle notes of vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar. Decent stuff,

Hit and run with a long pending baseball draft to follow. Thought about a quick one or two before, but it's crazy snowing and the folks two blocks away at the Northwest Side Saint Patrick's Day parade are suffering as usual. It was 79 F and shorts weather Friday afternoon.

Full review linked above, full New Beer Sunday #1047 treatment linked here. Bottom line, this is a very strong selection, enjoying the bourbon and dark fruits. Add caramel is stronger than I prefer, but think many barleywine fans will like to love this selection.

Guinness Saint Patrick’s Day style

 

Export Stout. Brewed in collaboration with Epochal Barrel Fermented Ales. This is a recreation of a beer that found in bottles retrieved from a shipwrecked vessel Wallachia, which sank after a collision in the Clyde Estuary in 1895. The beer itself was a strong export stout from the McEwan’s brewery in Glasgow, destined for the West Indies.
