As always, comparing pure numbers across sports eras misses a lot of factors and nuance. Gretzky's assist numbers dwarf Ovi's - but no one scores the 5+ goals per game that Edmonton back in the day. Then again, defense is more highly prized today and goalies are both bigger and (it seems to me) are allowed to wear larger pads.

I was actually surprised at two numbers that might "taint" Ovi should he barely eclipse the Great One. One is 3-on-3 OT goals (that Gretzky obviously had 0 of), where Ovi has somewhere between a dozen and two. The other is empty net goal - and Ovi doesn't have as large a gap over Gretzky there as I expected (Ovi has 65+ and Gretzky had 56). He does dominate Wayn in PP goals, but he dominates almost everyone there.

I am really just surprised at his performance this season to even be at this point in the chase, even given the 15 or so games he missed with injury.

I'm more surprised at Gretzky's fall from grace. I didn't see him getting passed but more importantly I didn't think It would be by a Russian more beloved then him at the moment.

 

Yeah, I love this tune by her. One of BH's best IMHO.

I don't get the fall from grace part - I wasn't aware people now disliked him. I definitely do not, and he's still likely the greatest player in history - given the aforementioned difficulties assessing across sports eras.

 

Back at it ba. 7 line, amber ale, alewife. About as gimmick of a beer as you can get. This of course is the line that gets you to the ballpark.

Otherwise, the beer is just bad. Malt forward, sludge, with zero complexity. I’m sorry but this is absolute trash beer. Just terrible,
