I was lucky enough to bend a blade last season and had to replace it. I didn't have to take the deck off but it was a PITA to get the blade off. And I don't remember raising the mower but I may have put the front on a milk crate. I think Cub makes a special tool to lock the blades so you can get the nut off. I managed to use a block of wood to lock the blades but I still need a 4 foot cheater bar on my socket wrench to break the nut. If I remember correctly, this was the right hand blade if you're sitting on the mower. I don't think I could have gotten it done on the left one. I just try to be a lot more careful with the roots in the yard now lol. Good luck man. If this doesn't make sense, pm me.
