What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #4586

Back with a pastry Stout from Radiant in Anaheim.(I used to live there) Canned fresh the week of February 17th 2025. Says so right on the label. A slow sipper but I like it.

Good morning Advocates! I had one can of Schlaumeier and some Isabella Hefe I recently picked up from Good Word. Decided to do a side by side.



Schilling Beer Co. Schlaumeier Hefeweizen 4.8% - Pours to a cloudy, pale yellow color with a frothy white head which fades fairly quickly. Aroma leans clove with a low banana and spicy hops note. Flavor is similar with a notable tartness that I don't believe is a flaw. Mouth-feel is light bodied and drying. A light and refreshing Hefe.

Good Word Brewing Isabella Hefeweizen 4.9% - Pours to a cloudy, pale gold color with a mousse-like white head that sticks around leaving nice lacing behind. Aromas are low, balanced clove and banana. Flavors are balanced low clove and banana with spicy/herbal hops and bready malt. Also has a very slight, hardly notable tartness that does not present as a flaw. Mouth-feel is medium bodied, soft and creamy. Finish is moderate length, semi-dry with a low, clean, trailing bitterness.

Winner: Isabella - These are both good Hefeweizen but present contrasting interpretations. Schilling's is lower-key, light and refreshing. The tartness is notable but lends itself to a refreshing quality. Good Word's checks all of the style boxes and presents nicely. It too is a refreshing Hefe but the head retention, flavor, and terrific mouth-feel set it apart.

Awesome! If you get a chance, post this on our German Beer Appreciation thread. Weltenburger makes some great beers. I used to see them here in GA but few people understood what a great brewery they are and I never see them anymore.

Gulden Draak Fire.
Another Gulden Draak that's not widely available. Could not find many reviews either. There must be plenty pepper of some sort in this one. The burn, together with the alcohol, is rather hot indeed in a good way.

Okay, earlier this morning I hear a loud noise and the house shook just a second. Thought a tree must have fell nearby. Apparently, there was a tremor south of Knoxville, TN and we felt it here in N. GA. Weird.

Good Saturday afternoon, friends. I stopped at Autodidact to get some fresh cans and to try a new DIPA, Proper Dose, a collab with The Druery in Mercer County. We’re headed out to Penna this afternoon for a bird walk (Mrs. Mac’s hobby). Maybe a brewery stop, as well. Cheets!

 

Couple hours out of town back in my college town to catch a baseball game. Stopping by Three Notch’d - enjoying a best bitter option, Market Maker. Pretty good.


Plus their sourced whiskey options are available and I will have to try what I can.
