It's a beautiful cold rainy day here with inches of it in the works. Unfortunately the Northland, Arrowhead, and Iron Range of MN aren't receiving much of it at all. That's where the wild fires are and they're moving. Barely contained. Uhg.

Community Citra Slice at DFW airport with a catfish po-boy at Pappadeaux.
The po-boy was on too white of bread but the catfish was delicious.
The beer was very good too.

This is my 200th unique reviewed SNBC brew and is the last of the 2024 Alpha Hop Society release from December to be sampled.
This spent 3 years in Rum, Chocolate, and Orange Bitter barrels with orange peel added. At 14.3 abv it comes out of the chute hot. The flavor play works well for my palate as the orange peels lend an additional touch of bitterness eliminating excess sweetness. Still sipping hot halfway thru the 375ml sample. I will attempt to sit the other bottle i have in a recently gifted old wine cooler. Figure 5 years will tame this one a tad. Rated 4.15.

Yesterday when I was walking around the old Fairfield State Hospital checking out the abandoned buildings, I espied a van and the owner was putting what looked like kegs in the van.

I went over and started talking to him and the name of the brewery was Newsylum Brewing in Newtown CT. I asked him if they sold cans and he said they do, but only Weds through Sunday. Mon and Tues were dedicated to cleaning and maintenance. So then he asked me what kind of beers I liked, IPAS of course, and invited me inside where he proceeded to gift me two 16 oz cans of beer. I can't recall the name of the beer as they are unlabeled, but they are very tasty and well made (I believe the name was Beautiful Consequences).

The inside was beautiful, he said they spent 2 years rehabbing the place - removing asbestos and bringing the building back to pristine condition. Guy was really nice and I appreciate the beer, that was very generous of him. It's really great to see some of these old abandoned buildings being re-utilized instead of torn down. Place was beautiful! In a previous life, this particular building was the cafeteria for the doctors, he explained that it had an open layout which made it perfect for their use. The other buildings he said were like mazes inside.
