    See post #386! @JackHorzempa

It's a great beer, as expected. I miss the Marzen they used to brew though (G'Suffa!) as they shifted over to a Festbier the last two or three years.

Looking forward to my marzen this year as well, a few more weeks of lagering to go before I tap it.

Enjoying a Hoosier Bock from Schilling. Nice and light at 5%, this brings a very nice pumpernickel flavor with a little prickly herbal back-end bitterness. Always a pleasure to have a Schilling beer!
    Cheers!

I was originally going to comment on the low ABV for an 'alleged' Bock beer but I visited the BA site for this beer to note that it is detailed as an American Bock beer on the label:

Would you happen to know if Schilling used any adjunct (e.g., corn) to brew this beer.

    Cheers!

P.S. This reminds me that I have one can left from my 12-pack purchase of Genny Bock in the fridge.

    Jack,
Found this description on the Untappd site:
Lower in alcohol than traditional German Bockbiers, this American version is easy drinking. Amber-colored with malt-forward notes of brown bread, light caramel, and a hint of corn sweetness, it was brewed with a blend of 2-row and 6-row barley, Munich malt, and Boone County Corn–all from Indiana's Sugar Creek Malt Co.

I suspected that when I read "American Corn" on the label.

    Cheers!

P.S. Thanks for your web surfing skills here! I tried to find out via Schilling but since I am not an Untappd person I didn't think to check there. :flushed:

It is not too often that i try Burial Brewing lagers. Not that they are bad as they are pretty good to good, but they tend to run about $4/can. I can enjoy better lagers from Europe (although not nearly as fresh) for a much better price.
And so it goes with Bohemian, it is actually a clear beer which rarely happens in the Burial IPA world, and i am finding this pretty good but just lacking the pop. Now mind you i bought an undated can directly from Burial and i know it was handled well but it sounds like this was packaged in April. All the right ingredients comprise this brew (pilsner malts, Saaz hops) but perhaps age is bringing this down. Overall rated 3.82.
    Cheers!

Did you have a conversation with the Burial people about dating their cans?

On a related note a couple of years ago I posted about an interaction I had with a New Trail Brewing employee during a Lager beer festival:

"On a related note I had a 5-10 minute conversation with a New Trail employee at a beer festival in Philly last year. One of the discussion topics was about their lack of dating on the cans. I stated to the guy that I personally refuse to buy their products since they refuse to date their cans. He remarked with something like "well, we do sell a lot of beer to people" to which I replied they would sell their beers to me if they ever decided to date their cans (and I could find them fresh).

I guess that for New Trail the decision as to whether they implement can dating is influenced by: if people are willing to buy our beers why pay the cost to implement can dating? Perhaps they will reach a point where they change their mind if enough consumers decide to do as I do: no date = no purchase?"

I am happy to report that recently I purchased a four-pack of a New Trail beer since there was a canning date on the bottom of the cans and it was fresh.

    Cheers!

Tastes Grater! And I’ve got the time.

No offense to the inspirational beer, this is an outstanding American Lager.

seriously, it’s look’n like a side trip north of Rochester is in order.

    Kölsch from Zoiglhaus Brewing

The aroma is mild and grainy with a whiff of green hoppiness, and not exactly the perfumey Kölsch note. Still, this tastes something like a German Kölsch, which is more than you can say about a lot of the beers you encounter in this category. It does taste rather sweet, more like a Helles Oktoberfest, but I'm not complaining. Whatever this is, it's an excellent and quaffable light beer.

Great weather for a Sunday dinner at the German-style beer garden in Portage/Kalamazoo. Hofbrau Dunkel and Paulaner Helles along with two different versions of schnitzel with fried spaetzel and a pretzel. I'm full.

Makes me appreciate the one I have nearby -- all of the H-P labels on draft.

I've always thought that 'vom fass' was from a wooden barrel. Not so? The beer that we had was on tap, but presumably a metal keg.

As you know Jack, I really hate that sort of mindset.

"Great outlook dude! So it sounds like you're telling me that many of your customers have no idea what your beer is supposed to taste like, and (apparently) aren't bothered in the least if they buy old or subpar product. It's just beer, gives them a bit of a buzz, and that's all they ask for from you."

When I hear that sort of a response from brewery staff, I feel like telling them "you are part of the problem" when it comes to educating the public about the benefits of drinking fresh product.

It just means from the barrel. If it said holzfass, then that would be from a wooden barrel.
