Lengths you've gone to, to access craft beer.

Recently I had the pleasure of touring Costa Rica as part of a group on business. Months before the trip I checked the beer scene out on the internet which revealed a total of one craft breweries in Costa Rica and a very limited offering of local macro brews. Panic set in.

I knew that I needed to reach that brewery. To cut to the chase I managed to divert an entire tour bus full of my fellow travellers unawares to this brewery (Volcano Brewing). I spoke to the tour guide and told him of my dilema and how it was unlikely that my fellow travellers would agree to the change in itinerary. He was really cool and said leave it to me. As we pulled into the brewery no one on the bus except for me and the tour guide knew what was going on.

When we got off the bus I headed to the bar as the others on the bus were treated to a tour of the brewery and an explanation of brewing.

Later they joined me at the bar for a two hour session of APA and Brown Ale.

As we got back on the bus the guide said to everyone that if they had a good time to thank me as it was my idea. They were in shock and thought it was all part of the itinerary. Thankfully they all enjoyed the detour very much.

Even the tour guide thanked me and said he would include the brewery tour for future groups.

What lengths have you gone to to get a real beer?

I have smuggled SNPA into a concert at the Savvis Center. Was sitting in a suite with unlimited AB products too.

Other than the occaisional smuggling of beer into a movie, concert, show or something of the sort nothing too crazy. I have however found myself shipping beers to my home when on vacations or traveling.

On our honeymoon, we wanted to do Charleston and Savannah. I made two conditions: we go to Ft. Sumter, and we go to Friday toasts at Moon River in Savannah.

Real beer is not available in South Africa so every beer I drink has to be shipped to me from either Europe or the USA.

This. I have taken a shine to taking advantage of Southwest allowing 2 checked bags for free as a means of me bringing beer home from wherever I go. Typically try to fill a 12-bottle styro shipper, and check it as a bag, and then stuff as many more bottles as I can into my suitcase without exceeding the weight limit. This has allowed me to bring home significant stashes of non-local beer at no shipping cost for me.

But it does require that I run around like an idiot trying to buy beer everywhere I go......

I sneaked in a couple bombers of Life & Limb into a concert at the Hollywood bowl last summer, I poured them into some A&W rootbeer plastic bottles.

Yea, the Hollywood Bowl allows you take alcohol and food to their regular venues, but when artists rent the place alcohol is not allowed in and they sell nothing but macro-crap, but you can still take some food and soft drinks

Nothing too crazy. Taken the 1.5 hr round trip to Bennington Beverage for Heady a couple of times when they were getting steady shipments of it.

Trusted a guy that I have never actually met in person to pick-up and send me some Black Tuesday. Turned out great since he didn't even have to charge me for shipping! (He was able to ship it through his work).

Today I drove 350 miles for 4 cases of heady topper. I'm actually at McDonalds right now and have 150 miles left till I get home. You know what I'll be washing these burgers down with.

I recently had my mom in Pennsylvania purchase a case of Brooklyn BCS for me, then had her take it to one of my best friends back there who owns a moving company. He put it on one of his trucks headed to LA, and I met the driver at a truck stop in Phoenix. Free shipping.

I recently took a vacation to Columbia...and knowing that there is no craft beer in Columbia, I got ahold of a horse. I then put three cases of Founder's Double Trouble into his rectum, purchased 3 boxes of Ex Lax, and sent my horse on his way. I met him, fed him, and drank Double Trouble all weekend. *this is a lie. No great story for me.
