I finally scored one of these Trumer Stang-like "pint" glasses (marked on the glass) they've always used in their marketing. It's pretty cool looking and rather robust, but honestly -- it's pretty difficult to drink from. I guess they were trying for something unique for their brand.

Beer's still the best ever German Pils brewed in the U.S. (and no, it's not hazy -- blame my crappy phone cam)

Wow, how tall is that glass? It looks like it's above 12".

Maybe not love, but call it research. "Pitcher Beer" is a Rice Lager from Common Space Brewery in Hawthorne, Calif.

Mouthfeel is coarse carbonation and a watery body. Slight fragrance of straw. You can just barely taste that bit of rice flavor, but mostly it is club soda and a hint of grain. Just a touch of soapiness in the aftertaste. I always like to see breweries tackle these lower-ABV recipes, what I used to call the Utah Supermarket limit of four percent. Unfortunately this wins the worst American Rice Lager of the year award.

You're having a rough day. This beer plus the one that awful one that you posted in the German Beers thread must be some sort of an omen. Hope things get better. :+1:

Thanks for watching out for my taste buds!
Off to a better start with a delicious Helles called Pseudoscience from 8 Bit Brewing in Murrieta, California.

So pleasingly aromatic with flowers and alfalfa. Tastes of roasted malt, somehow. But maybe it's some kind of hops. More green honeydew melon and hints of apricot, but more dry than fruity with just that perfect touch of sweetness. Brewers are starting to do interesting things with the Helles category! Maybe it's just all hoppy Lagers with different names (alsatian pilsner, etc) but I"m happy to see the variations of mildly hoppy brews.

Must be that Temecula region water. I used to love Garage, Black Market, Wiens, and especially Refuge.

Enjoying 11°, a Czech Lager from Newgrass Brewing in Shelby, NC. Nicely done, hits the style very well with the crackery malt base and herbal bittering hops.
    Cheers!

Unfortunately, i was overwhelmed when shopping at Shangy's in PA back in September as i had the wife in tow who had me on a stopwatch, the sun was in my eyes, etc. I picked this up as part of a mixed sixer but did not mind the date stamp. From May 2024. This was not a good style to have after a hoppy lager as it comes across sweet.

I discussed the below Czech Dark Lager in this weekend's NBW thread:

    An early Christmas Present!

Which brings me to another topic: Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everybody!!

Back to ‘my’ present. My wife and I had an appointment earlier today in New Jersey and on the way home she suggested we stop for some lunch in New Hope, PA (just across the Delaware River from New Jersey). And she specifically suggested Triumph Brewpub. And I enthusiastically responded: YES!

To my great joy I saw they now have a Lukr side-pull faucet installed. The bartender mentioned it was very new, just installed a couple of weeks ago. And in addition, they were serving a Czech Dark Lager on the Lukr: Woohoo!!

Served in a Tübinger dimpled mug:

    Appearance:

Very dark brown approaching black with a tan head.

    Aroma:

Subtle aromas of dark bread crust, and a hint of baker’s chocolate.

    Taste:

Flavor follows the nose with dark bread crust, a hint of baker’s chocolate. There is a medium bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium body, a luscious mouthfeel and a dry finish.

    Overall:

This beer is very good – excellent. The Lukr pour provided a luscious mouthfeel. This beer has great drinkability, when I finished my mug I wanted to drink a second but alas, I had to return home to do some chores.

My wife, which is sometimes my harshest critic, stated: It’s good but not as good as your Czech Dark Lager.

    Cheers!

    Cross post from WBAYDN:
Having my first Augustiner-Bräu bier (single bought in PA) as i have shied away from it because of the price per pack and suspicions on the age of the brew. I just found a thread on how to decipher the bottle code at the bottom of the label which unfortunately says it was born on 6-11-2024. It was a solid brew but definitely not popping.
    Cheers!

Just rediscovered this thread so I’ll through my favorite pilsner into the mix.

    Troegs - Sunsine Pils

Love the bitterness on this beer so much, such a clean and snappy one, and at only 4.5%; a great Pilsner beer.

Roast malt with a nice bitterness. I’ll have to go back for more.

I think of a Dunkel as being darker, but this is very nice.

Cut From The Same Cloth Pilsner from Pfeiffer Brewing

Slight aroma of grass. Starts out with a cereal taste and a hint of malty sweetness. Turns dry and biscuity. Then it tastes just like over-steeped green tea, herbal and bitter. Light spritzy body is pleasant, though. But overall not very drinkable.
