Lake Ronkonkoma. I remember one night watching Sachem play as a kind of a scouting trip. Our left tackle and I decided that the two of us were not enough to block that Elliott monster. Jumbo did well at Michigan and in the NFL. Cheers.

Funny thing, I’ve been enjoying an afternoon beer and writing about it for a number of years now, both here and in other places in the beer world. During that time, the Beermeister32 clan has more or less become accustomed to my posting a beer blog around 4:00 Pacific Time, most days.

So much so in fact, that on days when I miss out on writing, or decide to skip a day for whatever reason it causes a sense of concern. Like I’m lying on the floor somewhere, beer mug still in hand! So much so that I’m worried about family members sending an ambulance showing up at the Beermeister32 Labs and Warehouse by 5:00 if I don’t check in with a tasty beer story!

Today’s beer tale centers about something I don’t get into often, actually TWO things I don’t encounter much – East Coast beers and Belgian White Ales. Generally speaking, my tastes run in different directions than those found in Belgians. Allagash Brewing out of Portland, Maine is a very popular brewer, and when Beer-Loving Daughter #2 was domiciled in Massachusetts, Allagash was one of their favorites.

As a style, White Beers usually means wheat beer, which it usually is, and often uses a lot of horrifying additives like coriander, orange peels, brewer’s haze and mystery spices - not to mention the use of phenolic flavor inducing yeast and the like. Definitely not Reinheitsgebot!

So how does 5.2% ABV Allagash White Ale stack up to all this? Well, it’s a very popular Belgian style beer, but IMHO, it’s a clove-bomb. If you enjoy the phenolic clove flavors found in Belgian and many wheat beers, induced by typical phenol flavor producing yeast, here’s your brew. For Beermeister32, it is shiver inducing, a really rough ride! DUMPER!

NOOO don't do that to Allagash White...oh man, one of the best beers ...though I also can't imagine its all that fresh in CA. When it gets old the phenolics do tend to just take over. There is a much more, fruity ester, almost tart lemony balance for me when fresh.

Right along here ba. Swishin n’ dishen, neipa (citra/citra cryo), Aurora brewing- king ferry ny. Apparently made for the Knicks- the one ny team w/ a real shot a championship. Anyway, soft and tangy hops, good depth w/ notes of melon & berries. Tasty stuff.

@meanmutt this Mets team is a train wreck. You get no Soto as well. I do still have an Eric Davis rookie card and a couple of dykstra’s. Who was the better player? Harold baines or Eric Davis? Harold baines or Daryle strawberry?

Yeah, one of my workhorse glasses. Sorry to hear about their closing last month, but not shocked. Tough sledding these days for brewpub/restaurants, and Sawyer, Michigan is not immune. Seemed a bit off the beaten path when I was there awhile back.
Enjoy the rest of your Holiday!
