I'm newer to beer trading and feel like I have a descent sense for trade values of the more common traded/sought items but I have no clue on the trade values of these 2 vintages I have:

    -'03 Avery Czar
    -'07 Cantillon Iris

Any advice or input would be appreciated. I'm potentially looking to trade them but want to get a sense on what they're worth (or rather what other beers I can get with them) before I just start posting them. Thanks fellow BAs!

Both will likely only trade for hard to get locals like HF or not so limited releases like darkness and dark lord

Thanks for the input. I'm certainly not expecting them to be the holy grails of beer...just unsure of their value. For clarity are you saying both together or both individually would trade for the kinds of things you mentioned?

What size bottle is the iris?

Any American russian imperial stout holding up well for ten years would be a minor miracle. Unless someone is an Avery fanatic, I wouldn't think the Czar would trade for more than locals. Too much uncertainty.

Yeah I figured it would be a crapshoot on the drinkability but do see trades for undrinkable rare beers (rare as in that it's probably hard to find other unopened 2003 Czars - not that Czar as a whole is rare) all the time so thought there'd probably be someone out there that'd want it. It seems to me that it's such an odd beer to have 10 years later that it is probably hard to value. I mean I've seen the guys out there looking for old, retired Coors beers and offering ridiculous things for them but to most people that probably seems crazy. I guess ultimately a value is in whatever someone is willing to pay/trade for an item.

Any other thoughts on the values of these 2?

I love old Iris -- I had some 2007 not long ago, but it's not one I tend to trade for. I would think other old Cantillon would probably hold greater value -- I'm sure some people wouldn't trust the old hops in it (though they should).

If there are people like this, it's pretty much a sign of immense ignorance: lambic is traditionally brewed with aged hops.

But Iris is dry-hopped, and then the hops age. I understand the concern, but assuming a Lambic will age like an IPA is hilarious.

If an old DIPA turns into a well-aged barleywine, what does an old dry-hopped lambic(-style) beer turn into? :stuck_out_tongue:

They have not held up at all. Have had a few and they are a disaster. Op you should not pass them on to anyone.

This sounds like a bit of a beer geek trap, but here's one example...http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3313/24663
