Maybe I missed some thread but why is there so much hype for the 2009 BCBS? Other than it being a bomber I don't get it.

    1. Bombers reportedly age better
    2. It's aged remarkably well

I know a lot of beers in bombers that age well. It just blows my mind what people offer for those. Not arguing with you just hard to comprehend. What is the actual $ value of one of those?

I think they were about $12-14 in 2009. Now it's up to the person trading one to decide I guess.

Isn't this supposed to be the pappy barrel version?

The "Pappy" version is 2007, except there is no Pappy version (apart from Rare).

It has been clarified numerous times there was never a 2007 Pappy version. Just Rare (thus far).

I could have swore that a user on here posted proof there was a pappy version. j something, can't remember his name.

That's exactly what I said. I meant that the supposed "Pappy" version was 2007.

Dang it. I even thought that. I was even going to say "I think your quotations around Pappy means you know this" but didn't. Sorry and cheers!

Ha, Jegross? You'd think a lawyer would do more due diligence  That was who started the whole "2007 Pappy" thing. Then someone from GI chimed in a thread and stated there was no truth to the 2007 assertion (there was a horribly done chart that mentioned that one bottling of the 2007 was Pappy, but the chart was not sanctioned by GI and as such, had no bearing to reality).

I love this diagram. There aren't many things that get jimmies rustled on this site like that chart.

Basically it tastes like fresh BCBS minus the booze burn... When you take away the fire, you are left with this cheep tasting stout and dull burbon flavor!!!!! It was not bad or anything just not something that id give more than the $ value for again. If you really want some just sit on a batch for a few years and boom! There you go 3-4 year old BCBS!!!!

Also 2009 is available in 12oz and 22oz

Disclaimer ^^^^^this is my opinion, I'm not looking to trade or trade for the above mentioned beers^^^^^^^^^

What kind of beer would it take to land an 09 bomber?

There are two targets to aim for:
    1. Somebody who was able to purchase one at sale in December at binnies in which I think it was a lottery system and if you were lucky you could buy some for $25.00 each.
    2. Somebody who purchased bombers or cases back when they were released originally and aged them.

There is a significant cost difference between the two possible outlets. I think somebody who has been sitting on them might be more reasonable than somebody who bought one last year. Anyway I see your from Colorado so I bet if you could land one for a Zeeks belly up + some other crooked stave totaling $15-20. Or I would think an AC golden variety would be reasonable.

I had to research through my old messages but for whats its worth I traded 2 KBS and 1 12oz '09 BCBS for a rosso marone batch 5 when it was released. I needed the Rosso for a gift to a family member so I was happy to give up what ever I had to make the other party. I thought this was a fair trade.

Traded a 750mL cantillon RdG for one (22oz) about a year ago. Both ends of this trade were happy.

No lie - I bought 10 2009 bombers for $10 each at a store that shoulda known better (now they gouge you for everything they have). And this was in late 2010 - back when you could kinda get it off the shelf (besides 2012 )

Only have three left :slight_frown: ... never traded any of them, and I trade a lot. Drinking superb right now. Have no idea on the trade value ...

Great price. I got them out here for 12.99 if I'm not mistaken. They were shelf turds back then. I just thought they'd be around forever so I didn't buy more when I had the chance.

2009 bourbon county is tasting incredible right now. Personally, the 08 is a bit too fruit forward at the moment while the 09 still has a ton of chocolate, vanilla and coconut with very little heat. I wish I had a case for the cold months ahead.

I 100% agree with your sentiments about 08, but I do think the '10 is drinking the best of the vertical right now.

Not sure, but I can assure you that it is not aged in PVW

Whats the difference in a 2009 bomber vs two 12 oz 2009's? Other than the vessel it' still the same beer, a really good one at that. Still like this brew hot though and fresh IMO aging is way over rated.

Some claim larger format bottles age better. True or not, the 09 bomber I had 2 months ago was one if the best BA stouts I have had. Insane good. Better than Rare right now IMO.

I just cracked my bottle tonight and it was very good, but it got me thinking that 13% may have been the perfect abv for this brew and the 14.5 and 15% abv of the last two year's releases were a bit heavy for my tastes. I hope they do continue to increase it in 2013 and moving forward. I think I would prefer falling back to 13%.

I believe you, obviously where you live you have access to BC stuff, still don't understand why, it all came from the same batch. I dabble, I had a 2007 that was clearly past prime, 2 2008's that were still good, but still IMO going past prime, and a 2009 that I accidentally popped because I didn't look at the labels, thought I was grabbing a 2012. To be honest I didn't notice a difference until I went to find the 2009 and it was gone. Could be how good any bottle is equal to how well it's been stored. I live in an Apt, I don't have a cool cellar, in the dark in a closet at room temp is as good as it gets, could be 3- 4 years is peak max I don't know.

I recently cracked a 12oz 2009 BCBS and it was by far the best beer at a tasting. We had a lot of amazing beers that night, but the '09 stole the show...

I remember back on '09 when those bombers were on the shelf for like 6 months. It is one of the brews that really got me into craft beer, and I haven't landed one since then. :slight_frown:

I had an almost identical experience. Had an 09 bomber about 2 months ago, and a Rare in the same timeframe. That 09 bomber is one of the best BA stouts I've ever had.
