So, this beer is only 1/15th aged in barrels? Wow, hefty tag. :grimacing:

I know that this is likely a lost cause since these bottles really aren't meant for consumption (whalez bro), but I'm curious as to how an Irish Dry Stout with a fairly low ABV holds up to barrel aging and cherries. Depending on the length of the aging process, of course, wouldn't the base turn into a Bourbon Cherry bomb?

Draft BA Black Sun (without cherries) is tasty - it holds up surprisingly well to the bourbon.

Well considering Black Sun stout is pretty dang awful and they just discontinued it from their lineup, it makes me think they brewed one final batch with a big "F-U Customers!" on the fermentation tank, threw it in some bourbon barrels with cherries, and Nick rode to the Benz dealership and took a new lease out.

This description gave me a visual of Nick laughing maniacally whilst riding a dragon out of the brewery with sword in hand.

They didn't discontinue it from their lineup. It has just been replaced in bottles.

I was under the impression it was a seasonal release, are you saying they're producing it in 6er's now?

Discontinued means gone. It will still be on draft occasionally.

I thought Black Sun was becoming a "when we feel like it" release, rather than part of the regular rotating lineup. So, instead of always being available in December, it will just come out at random.

Quick question as I'll be up in a few weeks. I noticed Murda'd Out lasted quite awhile, do the barrel aged beers like this usually make it a few weeks or are they gone much quicker? Obviously price and the beer itself will make this vary but I'm just curious to see if I come up in a couple of Saturdays if I'll have a shot a barrel aged beer. Thanks.

It's tough to say. This being the first $35 release in a while, it very well might not last very long. When they were releasing a BA variant once a week in the summer/fall, they remained available for a longer period of time.

If all else fails, you'll likely have a shot at some Baller Stout when they inevitably "release" it for the fifth(?) time.

Cool, thanks. I know it varies but they seemed to be putting them out with relative frequency so I wasn't sure if a barrel aged beer would make it 5 days.

I think Murda'd out is lasting so long at the store because it wasn't sold out within the first two days of being available. Everyone that has $50 to drop on a stout, and frequents this board, and lives in Chicago, likely showed up there either the day it was released, or the day it was announced on Facebook the day after. After the first few days, and the initial reports being variable, demand dropped significantly. I however think it's a great beer and should turn into something seriously delicious as the heat dissipates and the beers change.

I was fortunate enough to try it at a recent tasting and thought it was certainly enjoyable. IDK if I would have dropped $50 on it after having it but it was a very good beer. Thanks for the info.

Considering other things I can get for $50, you are certainly right. However, I can see how they would justify a $50 price tag given their usual prices.

As mentioned before Black Sun is not gone, just not their December Seasonal Release (at least in 2012). It will be brewed periodically (whenever the F they feel like). No official word on whether it will be draft only or bottled.

I just so happened to be headed up there at lunch to grab some Zombie Dust (which was sold out...) and lucked into a bottle. Didn't even know it was on sale. I guess I'll save it to open with your sad story-ass. :grinning:

Appears that orange wax is this years color. Can third the 144 bottle count. Guy behind the counter also said the bottle count on Murda'd out was 1300.

BA Black Sun, in addition to BA Ice Grille, ruined DLD for everyone who waited in line for the brewpub that did not get in by noon. Nuff said.
