12 Days of Christmas – 2019 Style!

BLUF: Wrap beer, give hints, send beer, open beer, drink beer, and post pictures.  Bam, that’s it.

For those that are slow and still don’t get it…the gist of this BIF is quite simple, you’ll be assigned a target, you stalk your target for a while to figure out what they want, enjoy, can't get, etc, wrap beer like Christmas presents, and send a box (or 2) to your target. The presents are individually wrapped vessels of beer (bottles, cans, growlers, etc). Each of these presents will be wrapped and tagged with the order or date of which they should be opened. Loosely following the advent calendar, we will open beers, consume, and post our appreciation each day.

This year you have 2 choices to make, with 2 options each, which makes 4 combinations total for those that can’t do math (looking at my Kentucky Locals).

Option 1: Locals box or Queen box.
This BIF (and my adventure into craft beer) started out with the Locals group https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/the-locals-hints-and-hauls-thread.180634). The Locals are a generous group with humble beginnings, sending our favorite local beer to each other. To honor that, we are going to offer a LOCAL option.

Local box is a box of your favorite local beers. Pretty simple. You can send other beer if you have something your target wants, but it should be mainly local brews. Local is left to you to define, within a state, within a couple states, etc. The intent is really to give folks the option to participate that are shy of some of the big boxes thrown around in the past.

Queen box. I struggled with what to call this box (whalz, killer, advanced, etc). This is closer to what we’ve seen in the last couple days of Christmas threads. A box of mostly sought after beers, meeting as many of your targets wants and wish list as possible. Killer Queen ... Guaranteed to blow your mind!

Option 2: 6 Days or 12 Days. And again, you have the option of 6 days verse 12.

And, of course, mix and match if you want. 2 boxes of 6, one locals and one advanced. 2 boxes of 6 locals to 2 different people. Whatever, I’ll try to make it work. (yes, I am stupid for offering to do this, but it’ll be fun). I might have a 12 day send to 2 six days, or vice versa. Where I can't/won't go is having a queen box send or ship with a Locals box.

Beer drinking dates:
12-Day option: 12 continuous days, starts December 21 – ends Jan 1
6-Day option: Dec 21, Dec 24, Dec 25, Dec 27, Dec 28, Dec 31

It's up to the shipper to decide which beers should be opened when, and remember this is a task that shouldn't be taken lightly. Should the target open the best on the 25th, or maybe wait until New Year’s Eve? It is all up to you.  A couple holidays are included, so plan accordingly. 

Limits: Also putting a limit on the amount of beer sent too. One beer (or 2 small) per day. Extras are highly encouraged, but limit those to be no more than 6. I know not everyone will listen, but don't be butt hurt if you go over board and your sender doesn't. Someone might actually follow the rules.

Dennis rule: Mix the box up a little. Don’t send 12 days of 15% stouts. Give your target a break. Unless you are shipping to @campa86

The Maine Rule: Don't be an ass. This BIF isn't about lots of drama, take that shit somewhere else. Don't like it, don't join.

Participation Rule. Part of the fun is the hints and banter leading up to the opening of bottles, and then posting porn every night during the 12 Days.  Please don't sign up if you can't put in the time to participate frequently to add to the fun. You should provide lots of hints. I will be on your ass if you don’t.

I'd like to get targets out by Thanksgiving weekend, with shipping dates of Dec 1-18, so if you're interested let me know. Sign up ends November 24th.

Here are the details:

• Provide me via message the following information (title the message “xmas bif – BA name” so I can easily reference it:
  • Name and shipping address
  • Any Do Not Ship dates (ie you’ll be out of town)
  • Shirt Size
  • Untappd Username
  • Locals or Queen
    
  • 6 or 12 Days
  • Wish List - (you can send later so you have time to think about it) this is your beer geek list to Santa, giving them a bit more to go by than just your wants. Feel free to include specific beers, styles you love, styles you don't like, breweries, etc...

Specifics for our Santa Shipper’s

• Minimum of (12 or 6) beer gifts (single bottle, couple small ones, side-by-sides, etc), each individually wrapped in some way to ensure its contents cannot be identified and clearly marked when it should be opened (either sequentially or the open date is fine)
• Not limiting it to a specific BA rating level
• Utilize the Wish List, as well as your targets wants, and at least try to get them beers they can't buy locally
• Include some type of beer related gift. Shirt, glassware, etc.
• Your package should arrive to your target no later than the week of December 15th, in case your target is traveling for the holidays (travel plans will be noted when you get your target if available
