That's what Maine Beer's Peeper Ale is going for at Meadhall in Cambridge right now. $8 for an 8.5 oz pour, or $15 a pint. I actually sat down, looked at the beer menu (Peeper was first on the list), and left. Walked over to Cambridge Beer Company and had a pitcher of Tall Tale Pale Ale for $17. Just disgusting what the craft beer world is coming to. Good beer at reasonable prices, can we seriously get back to this?

Saw pretty much the same thing at eastern standard about 6 months ago. Ordered something else.

A very good idea. Overpriced brewery*overpriced bar = outrageously priced beer. I can't believe anyone would pay that price for that beer.

Isn't this really only an issue with Maine Beer Co?

Have seen the same with founders breakfast stout at nearly $1 per ounce. Obviously, lots of imports, too.

In their defense, a webpage saying "site coming soon" for a year and a half doesn't pay for itself.

Stop going to well-known beer palaces that jerk customers around with high-priced short pours, shitty staff attitudes & overpriced, lousy gastropub food. The growth of craft beer means you don't have to put up with this crap any more - plenty of good beer to be had at restaurants & under-the-radar bars that treat their customers (& their wallets) with respect. Seek them out.

Oh - & ignore MBC beer too. :open_mouth:)

That is nuts for Peeper, I got a 16 oz Lunch at Sunset for that price last year. Well actually I got the last 2 pints in the keg, and since it kicked about 14 oz in to my pour the second one was free. That was a good deal.

15$ for a pint of Peeper is still less of a markup than 6$ for a pint of BMC. A pint sized bottle of peeper is what? 6-7$ in a bottle shop? So it's a 2x markup. That's not that outrageous, just very expensive.

I pay between $7-$8 for a pint bottle of any of the MBC beers, so $15 a pint, while pricey, isn't ludicrous for a bar. That said I wouldn't pay it, but then again I don't routinely buy MBC beers anyway due to their pricing.

Saying the draft price isn't ludicrous because the bottle price is stupidly expensive too is a pretty weak argument. It was my first stop into meadhall and likely my last. As for Maine Beer, I think I'll stick with cheaper pale ales and IPAs like Sculpin for now on.

How do you figure? It is about double what the equal amount in a bottle would be to buy at a beer store....

Think of it like macro, you can get a 24oz can of Yuengling in stores for $2.....go to a bar and try and get 24oz for $2. The reason why this seems like such a massive markup is the base price of the beer is higher.

Right, that's my point. MBC's pricing is so out of whack with the type of beer that the only option for a bar is to cut mark-up and margin to keep it relatively in-line with other beers of the style, or keep the same pricing scheme for all beers, which leads us to a $15 pint. This is more on MBC's end than Meadhall, but it's not like everything else on the tap list is priced reasonably. I mean, they're charging $7 for a 14 oz. pour of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Oh you'll get no argument from me there, MBC's pricing is absurd. And yeah, if this bar is already overpriced I can see your disdain.
