Yeah, I also thought that you and your brother grabbed four cases but now I understand that the place only got four cases. I didn't want to say anything because there's already too much judging that goes on on some of these threads. I'm glad I didn't because I would've been falsely accusing you of being selfish. It just goes to show you, not everything is as it seems and we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

I probably should've been a little clearer on that, it does sound like I bought 4 cases. I only bought a couple bottles, I should've said the store only got 4 cases. I couldn't afford 4 cases anyways, even if I wanted to, plus that would be a crap ton of Parabola to drink. Theres way to many good beers out there to buy so much of one beer.

Brother is bringing me a bottle from Virginia this weekend. Glad I can finally give it a try.

Was $12 a bottle and that store was only allowing one per customer. Wish they distributed to Georgia.

I was able to pick up 2 bottles. What do you guys suggest for how long these should be aged?

Isn't it also above your ABV limit there?

My area TW doesnt have any on the floor (nor a shelf/sticker for it). But I saw 3+ cases just sitting on the above shelf inventory areas.. Somethings sketchy on a distributor front. Be careful out there. I'm guessing there are discounts or removals if they sit for too long "un sold", so why not just not try to sell any at all. Bravo was the same way fyi.

Yeah I believe ours is 14%. One thing I miss about VA: no limit! But distribution was sorry where I lived; so give and take.

Was fortunate enough to get 3 Parabolas today at 3 different shops around Boston for $10 each with a 1 bottle limit. It was a Good Friday indeed.

So let me ask you a question then. If I grabbed 3 cases of a beer that is always on the shelves, say st. Bernardus abt 12, would you frown on that? Or is the gripe that you can't get that many and it's somewhat limited? I went by the place I grabbed those 3 cases today. And mind you that was over a week ago. There was still 5 cases of parabola still available. In my area FW sits on shelves for months. My local store still has bravo and XX anniversary sitting. Why should I not grab as much great beer as I can to drink? Who wouldn't love to have a parabola every week till next years releas? You may call it hoarding, but i just don't see it that way.

If the store doesn't set limits and you can tell others will get their fair share then why not.

However, I saw this guy at Oskar Blue's during a BA Ten Fidy crowler release and he had like 20-30 of them ready to take. Pretty sure they sold out that night. Must be a jealousy thing mixed with "some guy is going to get off work and just miss out on this because of that guy."

I hear you. I see people all the time easily getting beers I dream of. I'll never get to go to huna day and get 10 of them. Or go to tree house and grab a case of Julius. But let's save the hate. If you need a parabola @GetTheYayo the. Let me know. We can trade something.

So to lighten things up a bit here.... One of my places that I've been asking for months to see if they got BA vanilla shake must've got some a little bit ago. I grabbed a couple and was bullshitting with the guy I'd been bugging for them and he asked me "what's deal with that beer" and said if I wanted a case he'd give me 10% off. In disbelief the only thing I could think to say was "you have a case?" It took a tremendous amount of willpower for me to go back and grab only one more. I had to do the same when I found parabola at Costco for $8 with no limit of course ( there I tied in parabola to make this relevant to this thread). I guess we all do what we've gotta do within our comfort zone and hopefully a clear conscience.

Okay, this is weird. I'm drinking mine right now, and the alcohol seems to be masking almost all of the flavor. Anyone else getting that?

I drank my first bottle close to room temperature, and I had the same impression. The taste was bourbon and really not much else. I could kind of pick up some of the other flavors, but they were greatly masked and only lurking at the fringes. Very different experience than I had with the '15 and '16 bottles I tried in the last month. I plan to age the rest of my '17 bottles to mellow them out.

I don't know if I'll grab a second bottle. I've got to move very soon, and I don't really have enough money saved up, so grabbing another bottle to hold for a year or more, when I don't even know where I'll be next month seems a bit frivolous.

I saw Parabola on those shelves just last weekend. No limits.

Bravo has been on the shelves and never left since hitting ABQ. At least at Jubilation...though I did see Bravo on the shelves sitting next to Parabola while at Total Wine last weekend.

Was able to score a bottle today but after tax came to 13$+. No matter how good it'll be a one bottle limit for me. For that I could pick up a 6 of high westified.

Having just done a vertical of '14–'17 over the last few days, I find this year's vintage to have a fairly different character from previous years. It also seems fairly distinct from my memories from having had those earlier vintages fresh. I get a lot of Nutella and some chocolate-covered orange, with relatively little in the way of dark fruit, coconut, or smoke. It's still very good, but not as good to my mind as '16 was fresh. I get only a hint of heat or fusel alcohol.

Showed up in southwest Missouri today. $9.99, limit 1 per person. Wife and I each grabbed one. Considering this is the first time we have been able to buy locally, we are fans of the 12 oz. bottles. Past years our community of over 200,000 would get 12 bottles total. Needless to say almost impossible to get. Very pleasantly surprised was able to get it this year.

I don't complain about beer prices on Stouts to a large degree, especially barrel aged beers, it kind is what it is. I bitch about Ballast Point pricing that I find obscene for mediocre IPAs if I want to bitch about anything.

Parabola is back! Finally got a case of the '17 today and was pretty worried for 2 reasons. First I was very disappointed in last years vintage because of that very uncharacteristic astringent bitterness it had and then the fact that this years vintage was brewed by a very average brewery, Boulevard, trying to brew a world-class beer. It did not disappoint though, this vintage is on par with the pre '16 versions that I was hoping for.

Yeah it ruined it for me, and it isn't going away either. Every time I open a '16 I'm hoping to notice improvement but I've given up on it. Doesn't matter now though, they redeemed themselves.

Kinda lame that FW (or Duvel) would have Boulevard brew what is probably their most sought after/hyped beer.

Last year I got a 22oz bottle ON Premise at a bar in Brooklyn for $18. Now even whole foods in NYC, which tends to have some of the best prices, are selling the 12oz bottle for $13.99 OFF premise.

Why is it lame? Westbrook brews everything from Evil Twin but nobody says the Barrel Aged Jesus brands are lame. I don't get it :slight_frown:

That is an awesome deal for on premise! There is a bar on Long Island that has Parabola 2010 for $125, 2012 for $95, and 2014 for $75!

Isn't Evil Twin a gypsy/contract brewery? Can't really compare Evil Twin to FW who has multiple facilities for brewing. I wouldn't think much of it if they were having Boulevard brew some batches of Union Jack or another year round beer.

Something I think a lot of people are not thinking about is that Boulevard brewing Parabola has a number of odd things associated, most notably that it is barrel-aged. So many things would effect the aging process. There's no way another brewery brewing and aging it will make it the same. The only question is how many people actually notice (nuanced vs. obvious).

Whether there is a difference or not where Parabola was brewed is debatable. However, I feel that it has been discussed ad nauseam. Plus, I don't see anywhere that this thread is about Boulevard Bashing, rather about the 2017 of Firestone Walker Parabola!
