I see a lot of people talking and posting about how much they hate Rogue Ales. I personally have had many many different beers and a lot of Rogue's beers also. I think they push the limit on a lot of their stuff, but they come up with interesting combinations. Do people hate them because they brew some weird beers with sometimes not beer friendly ingredients?, or that they may be a little expensive for the style they are brewing?. Just curious what everyone thinks.....I always enjoy Rogue's ales and always look forward to the next weird and over the top combination they are coming up with.......

They are usually expensive and don't deliver as promised. I think you're right about the expensive/style part as well. $14 for a kolsch bomber, for instance. It's simply way too much for what you get.

Hate is a pretty strong word. I always try a new or existing offering I haven't tried yet by Rouge, most just haven't been enjoyable to me at this point. /shrug.

Their chocolate and double chocolate stouts are among the best chocolate stouts as far as I'm concerned. Those are the only Rogue beers I'll buy. Nothing else I've tried has really impressed me enough to make a repeat purchase.

a friend of mine brought their Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout over and I opened it accidentally.. it was OK.

Wood have rather drank my homebrew'd Odie Stout though!

I enjoy Rogue for the most part. Chocolate Stout is fantastic. White Snow is a solid IPA. I'm not a brown ale fan but do enjoy Hazelnut Brown. And anything weird they concoct. Price in my area is right on par with anything else of equal quality

Ditto...Lotta hype for expensive bottles in the MA distro area. Haven't tried anything from them worth the cost. Just very average to me.

Most people dont hate them .

They're quite average and most of their beers are in 22oz bombers, which is a costly package. If they had more 4 or 6 packs, im sure they would be better off.

And they dont have a lot of barrel aged goodies, which is the new hot thing to do.

I don't hate them, but most of their beers that I've tried have been somewhere between just OK and terrible. Chocolate stout is pretty good though and my wife loves the Hazelnut Brown.

I like their beers, but they are awfully expensive. I think Hazelnut Brown Nectar and their Chocolate beers are freakin' amazing. However they're price about 1/3 more (sometimes more) than comparable beers. I refuse to believe their costs are that much more than everyone else's.

Rouge was one of my first loves in the craft beer world, I'm still a big fan of Dead Guy Ale, but I concur with others, the quality of a lot of their stuff isn't up to the price they want for it

    • Their low hanging fruit, i.e. easy to obtain, so not hyped.
    • Few things that have been hyped in years past, such as the voo doo donut beers, were largely not well received by a majority.
    • For their core lineup, there are better, and cheaper offerings available as well in the market.
    • Old Product on the shelf, so bad experiences by consumers.

These are my general thoughts and impressions, as well as my opinions. I also think hate is a strong word, but bad first, and second impressions, no hype, ready availability, price, and other options are all factors.

Gimmicky overpriced, "fancy" looking bottles that contain okay, mediocre or terrible beer.
