You heard right, just 8 bucks. I've been looking around and this is the best deal I have found. I know some people are against the handle on the side, but if thats not a big issue than here ya go.

The link says $15 but I was just there so they may be on sale. They also have 3 gallon ones online for $11, I didn't see any in the store but if they are in there they could be on the cheap too.

And a question to put on the side, its specific but its worth a shot.

Does anyone know of a brew club around San Marcos, Tx? I dont want to drive to Austin or San Antonio but that may be the case if I want to be in one bad enough.

Yeah, for 5 gallon batches it would not be the right call. I plan on doing 3 gallon BIAB batches from here on out though so it suits my purposes at least. I looked into the buckets but I just don't like the idea of them, they seem a lot more oxygen permeable.

Hey I go to Texas state and homebrew. I live in Austin and get most of my supplies from either austin homebrew or soco homebrew. I don't know of any homebrew club, but haven't really looked for one either. There are some in Austin.

That's a classic 5 Gallon carboy trap, almost every 5 gallon recipe will over shot during pick fermentation mess it up around your carboy, clogging the air lock.
5 Gallon bucket is just litter better.
6.5 Gallon bucket get you best head space and volume flexibility, this 6.5 Gallon bucket is also Food Grade and it's also alcohol safe.

Haha, I like @inchrisin 's mindset on that one. But I was mistaken, went back and bought it and the handle is not hollow. Just as easy to clean as any other fermenter (somewhat), and I use oxyclean/star san so it gets the job done.

@CameronThomas if you want to share some beers and have a brew day together give me a shout. There used to be two different brew clubs in SM and they both shut down.

I do the the exact same thing!! I got a bunch to do experiments with, it takes a #9 stopper (if I remember correctly) which you can get a 1lb bag for a couple bucks off amazon it's obviously foodsafe, strong and it has all the benefits of using a carboy.

Looks expensive. Are these filled or empty? I buy 5 gal Nestle pure-life brand jugs at my local grocery store for like $5.90. They are PET plastic and the handle is not part of the fillable volume so cleaning is no more difficult than any other carboy. I've successfully done 5gal batches in these, but only when using Fermcap.
