Remember beer is made by yeast which is a living organism even if you use the exact same recipe it will never turn out exactly the same but it will usually be close. How off was it?

I don't think you understand. It is impossible to find six month old Zombie Dust unless it has been forgotten in the back of some beer geeks fridge.

You must have the batch they were brewing when the brewery burned down. They bottled that batch recently

    Enjoy

I totally see your point. Maybe not yesterday, but I have traded for Dreadnaught, bought on a shelf in Kentucky, that may have been bottled around y2K. It happens...I understand that you take care of those in your backyard. And I more than applaud FFF for the awesome beers they provide to this community. But I will always be a firm advocate for freshness dating. This has nothing to do with FFF. I WILL NOT buy an IPA that is not dated. Period.

I prefer to get Zombie Dust from the brewery and then from various liquor stores. Once I secure both extremely fresh and various aged vintages (up to 7.5 months old) I blend them in a 2:1:1:1:1 ratio using fresh, 2 week old, 2 month old, 4 month old, 7.5 month old Zombie Dust. This is the best way to partake in the Zombie Dust.

like some others said, it could have been a number of reasons; my guess is the food you had before/with the zd. IMO fff's brews are pretty consistent from batch to batch, and I've had more than enough to make an educated assessment. It may also be your mood, I know that sounds weird but sometimes after freezing my ass off all day at work I want a stout or porter something with a little weight and warmth to it.

Just one lowly man's opinion for what its worth.

This is true for Zombie Dust but not the rest of their beer. I remember when it was true for Dreadnaught, Alpha King, and Gumballhead too. There is a grocery store down the street from my house where Alpha King just sits on the shelf not many beer geeks shop there. And Dreadnaught is in constant supply at every Binnys so I'm convinced it's not moving as fast as it was a couple years ago. Not to mention people make mistakes cases get lost in pallets with other brews and sit. Bottle dating mitigates all of these problems.

Yup totally tastes better after a month. I've had it bottled same day and I get the same thing, too bitter, hops aren't tasting so good. My bro's wife works at a bar that always has it on tap and I know a keg of it lasts months there because it's a dive and no one there would appreciate a good beer, and every time I have 2-3 month old ZD on tap there it's a friggin religious experience.

I dont think OP is crazy. When I keg a hoppy homebrew they are definitely better after 2 weeks in the keg than they are 3 days after I keg it.

I rarely really enjoy the first ZD after a long hiatus.... But by the time I get to 2 or 3 (whether it be same night or over a weeks time) it is back and better than ever.

A hiatus for even your favorites is always a good thing, I agree with you 100%. I can get most of my favorites 99% of the time but don't. Sometimes time only grows fondness.

Personally the only way I consume Zombie Dust is by snorting it.

I find PtE & PtY both to be best around 1-2 weeks after bottling & Kegging for PtY. citrus becomes brighter. Same I'm assuming applies for ZD?
