    Ho ho ho, greetings all!

Here is the lowdown... A mystery beer box with an assortment of beers from local brewers near me!

I've reached out with a charitable idea to complement the holiday season to all local breweries near me(possibly a few a bit father away) and they've agreed to each donate a mix of beers for a lucky winner(s) to have shipped to them just in time to enjoy throughout December...

Details will follow of which breweries have so nicely agreed to join as of now right away with others following later. Each brewery will have a full right up.

This charity draw will be open for sign up as of Monday, November 1st and close Saturday, November 27th.

The draw will happen on Sunday, November 28th.

    Questions? Ask away!

Intent on joining? Here is how:

Send me a message with the headline for the forum thread. Give me all the usual information for my spreadsheet:

    - Full name.
    - Address.
    - Moble phone number.
    - Email address

Then make100$ donation to a local charity of your choosing in your home town/province. Just send we proof of donation via email(a picture is fine)and your in. Once confirmed I respond confirming then post on the BA thread the name and information around your charity of choice, why you picked it and what it means to you.

Once sign up has closed all of those who joined will be sent a picture via email of their ticket stub which will include number on corresponding to your infomation that will be used to draw the winner(s).

I will then post photos of myself getting ready for the draw posting on the thread via Flickr the moments leading up to the start.

The draw will consist of myself with the help of my lovely assistants(my kids) putting all tickets in a bowl. One by one a ticket will be drawn eliminating the ticket holder until we reach the end. After each ticket is drawn I will post the ticket number on the BA forum thread in order for those who wish to follow live. One by one I will draw tickets until the last remaining ticket is left and will win the mystery beer box...

5 brewers have already confirmed participation. I am waiting to hear from another four which could result in a split of the spoil between the top two (stay tuned for that).

I will then speedily ship the winner their delicious prize to enjoy as quickly as CP can get it to them! All weather permitting of course.

All brews will be a mystery. All hand picked by myself to showcase the diverse line up of each brewer that has joined.

The last two years have challenged all of us in varying degrees. I wanted to something to help others and also have a little fun doing it. I love running CANBIF so I thought to myself how could I do something to help those in need and came up with this idea. The more BAs that sign up and donate to a local charity the more it helps those in your community.

Cheers BAs! Hope to hear from you!

I'm in. Do we just scan a copy of the tax receipt and BM it to you?

Also, I think you may need to ship the box out next spring to some of us though. Prairies are getting pretty cold this week.

Brewer Focus # 1: THIRD MOON Brewing Company.

I love Third Moon. I regularly order. As you know they focus on the modern beer styles and at the top of the list are hazy and juicy hop-forward IPAs--big on flavour and low on bitterness and also big pastry stouts that feature dessert-like flavours such as coffee, chocolate, coconut and maple syrup. They also round out their lineup with fun and exploratory sour beers experimenting with different flavour combinations through large fruit additions and other complementary ingredients.

Personally I can't get enough of their beers. The quality never dips or disappoints.

A huge thank you for participating!

    Brewer Focus # 2: Ces't What Durham.

Located in Pickering Ces't What Durham is a partnership between the Ces't What restaurant/brew pub located in downtown Toronto on Front Street West, and County Durham Brewing.

Founded in 1996, County Durham Brewing was largely Bruce Halstead’s one-man operation for a quarter century until partnering with Toronto’s original craft beer bar, C’est What, in 2021. Specializing in cask ales the brewery offers a variety of styles to bring you back to the comforts of your favourite local.

This brewery features a rotating core line up with six featuring nitrogen (NO2) infused cans, "cask asked Ina can." I have sampled them first hand and they are both unique and delicious.

Brewery Focus # 3: Town Brewery.

Located near the shore of Lake Ontario in south Whitby, Town Brewery has been slamming out quality beers across styles for quite some time.

A rotating line-up of diverse styles as well as consistent quality core brands are always available including alcoholic beverages non beer related.

The Town Brewery itself offers and enjoyable sit down experience usually having an extensive tap selection of one offs and variants on of packaged brews as well as stapled regular core brands.

I will say I regularly visit Town. Their IPAs are consistently great, which being one of on three breweries making a sour I loved!

Also, perhaps this should be advertised in some of the Canadian craft beer Facebook groups. We might raise more money, and generate some new Canadian BA users. Two birds, one stone, as it were.

I’m happy to post the link in the ones I’m in if you are good with this @Electros

Electros wants us to share our donation choices and reason for choosing them. Her goes:

I donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

When my son was born almost 5 years ago, he needed life saving surgery at SickKids on his second day of life. He is a twin, and his sister needed a couple weeks in NICU at Mount Sinai. Needless to say, for our first few weeks as parents, life was reduced to running back and forth between hospitals from very early in the morning until late at night. The one place that provided some respite was the Ronald McDonald room at Sick Kids. It allowed us a place to take a quick nap, eat donated meals (because otherwise we would forget to eat) and talk with other parents who were going through what were often much worse things with their kids than were we. it was much appreciated.

Cheers. And thanks for running this. It is a great idea!

Brewery Focus # 6: Badlands Brewing Company.

One of a few brewery farms in Ontario, Badlands opened it doors in 2018 located in Caledon and specializes in something near and dear toy heart; quality IPAs of all sorts of varying sub-styles but they didn't stop their also having a deep affinity for farmhouse ales, crispy lagers and mixed fermentation sours.

Originally Badlands started off as most in the industry do brewing on a smaller scale and interestingly enough in an old retrofitted calf barn.
Now days after growth Badlands is Brewing on much bigger scale and has amazed quite the following in both Ontario and beyond.

    Donation: Sick Kids

My family works in various medicare fields, so I hear a lot about the system. With Sick Kids, close family members have had to go there in the past for major care/surgeries & I know how tough it can be to operate without proper funds.
Kids are our future & deserve the best care & attention when required.

My donation is to Clinic 554 in my city of Fredericton.

Clinic 554 provides healthcare and support to women and the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Their work focuses on areas of health that my province does not provide readily to these groups. Their services are focused on prevention and support, but they do provide complete medical services.

People in need of the services of the clinic have usually faced roadblocks and closed doors before finding the clinic. Many are scared and in difficult or dangerous situations.

Clinic 554 is a safe space for all. The province refuses to fund some of the work that the clinic does, and they rely on public support to keep their services available.

The politics of this don't matter to me. What matters is that these marginalized groups have access to the care and support they need to live healthy lives.

Most of us take healthcare and visiting the doctor for granted. We are lucky to have a system that helps, but there are still people who fall between the cracks. These are the people that Clinic 554 helps.

Brewery Focus # 7: Manantler Craft Brewery.

Opening the doors in 2015, Manantler Craft Brewery just down the street from me in an historic factory in downtown Bowmanville.

Manantler quickly established itself building a solid line up of core brands as well a huge rotating selection of one-offs (over 120 and counting) that would satisfy all pallets.

Much has changed including the location which is now situated in a larger venue in South Bowmanville right beside Stuttering John's BBQ smokehouse (try the brisket).

Manantler strives to be an integral part of this amazing community and remain steadfast in their commitment to brew quality beers with the best ingredients available.

    I'm in!

My partner and I live in Halifax, NS, and decided to donate $100 to Adsum, which is a shelter and community network for women & children and other marginalized individuals facing poverty, homelessness, and/or other hardships.

When donating, they allow an option for what "pot" the money goes to-- so specifically, we chose to put it towards their fund for 25 new sustainable affordable housing units. Adsum has a "development agreement with Halifax Regional Municipality and after securing $4 million in funds from the Rapid Housing Initiative, Adsum for Women & Children is announcing the launch of the ‘Sunflower’ – a development project in Lakeside that will construct 25 homes for women, families and gender-expansive folks who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity."

Housing insecurity is a big issue in Halifax, and even moreso for marginalized groups of people. We hope our small contribution can help this cause to help others down the road, to have the basic necessities they need to cultivate an enjoyable, comfortable, and meaningful life for themselves and those they love.

Thanks Chris ( @Electros ) for putting this on-- can't wait to see how much gets raised here!

    Cheers,

    Matt

My donation went to the Siloam Mission:

    Taken from their about page:

"Siloam Mission is a Christian humanitarian organization that exists to alleviate hardships and provide opportunities for transition for those experiencing homelessness"

They are very active in the community, and do a lot of good work. We were familiar with them as we've donated in the past.

I've decided to donate to the Maison Baldwin House here in Cornwall, Ontario.

Their mission is to assist women and their children in the transition from violent and abusive circumstances to a safe and secure environment and a renewed family by providing safe shelter and services, and encouraging them to realize their full human potential.

My wife and I watched the Netflix series MAID and we were both left heartbroken to know that there are so many women who are being held back from doing amazing things in life because of the abusive relationship they are in. When the series was done we both looked at each other and said that we were going to donate to Baldwin House this Christmas.

Thanks for putting this together @Electros, this is a great thing you are doing!
