My sister is going to LA next week. Staying in Los Feliz, going to Joshua Tree, then staying in Venice Beach

If she were to bring me home beer, where would you recommend her to stop without causing too much hassle?

I checked locality to Monkish and it's not too far from Venice Beach but not very convenient at the same time

Highland park Chinatown or modern times? Both will likely have stuff to go. She can probably find Pliny if that is still desirable.

Modern Times in DTLA will have a good selections to go. Firestone Walker in Venice should too, although I'm not sure how much of that you already see out there.

El Segundo Brewing Co makes some of the best WCIPA around. Mayberry is their year round and available in six pack stubbys (think Mickey's) and their seasonal bombers are fantastic. Easy to find at Whole Foods, Total Wine and bottle shops.

don't think they get MT in Penn. definitely have her go to Modern Times in DTLA. also Highland Park usually has bottles and cans to go depending on timing. Bill's Liquor Store in Atwater is not far from Los Feliz. might find some Beachwood cans

Modern Times gets a little bit of distro where I'm at...FW isn't handled by a wholesaler in my market but it's available in surrounding areas

    keep the suggestions coming

using the resources on BA it looks like Highland Park and Mumford would be accessible from Los Feliz but Highland park only does bottles for a membership program and Mumford offers crowlers to go, correct?

Highland park has to go stuff for anyone. The selection wasn't epic when I stopped in on some random week day evening but there were cans of a pilsner and an IPA and bottles of a couple things

Here is the direct link for Modern Times in LA..

    http://www.moderntimesbeer.com/tasting-room/los-angeles

You can see what is crowlerable and what they will likely have in their togo fridge (marked with a * at the end of the beer name).

With pickups for their latest sale starting tomorrow, they will likely have more stuff available togo for the public.

if suggesting stores, it's a big plus if they use social media to update things that they receive

If your eyes are fully set on Monkish, they do growler fills in 750s which are REALLY convenient size-wise. And if you missed the can release, they'll likely have it for some fills the next day.

haven't checked IG yet for Monkish...how do the can releases work?

I know for awhile they seemed really tradeable because they didn't have large allotments from what I understand

not trying to put my sister through too much hassle cause it's her vacation and she has never been to LA before

last year she went to Seattle and Portland and I just had her stop at one place in each city which was not too far out of her way...fortunately she was close to Fremont in Seattle and got me a few bottles of Rusty Nail and she was close to Great Notion in Portland and got me a couple of 4 packs

Check IG for release same day. But, otherwise, she can go and get growlers fairly easily.

Definitely don't have her go to a Monkish can release. I second the Highland Park Brewery and Modern Times suggestions. Modern Times has a ton of different cans these days and HPB usually has at least one beer in cans, usually two or three. You can also get crowlers of 5 or 6 different beers as well.

Plus, shopping the mini mart at the Modern Times Dojo is pretty easy. There's a "To Go" menu when you go, and...best of all, there's a SINGLE CAN purchase option for some of the items available.

Cuz you probably don't need a four pack of Gravity Hammer. ....You want more than one, but if you wanna budget out a bit better or are REALLY skeptical of a 10% Berliner...then it's completely understandable.

Why are people suggesting a Monkisk can release when it was specifically asked to avoid "hassle"? That's the last place you want to send her.

Unfortunately your options are not great with the areas she'll be staying in. If she has a desire to go somewhere in DTLA, then Modern Times and Highland Park are your best bets.

Venice Whole Foods (on Lincoln) used to have a solid selection but I haven’t been there in years.

I know I meant to say, "If there's a release, avoid! Day after? Go for it, and get a growler".

I think that's what most people meant.

Blackbeard's Crafts is one of the better bottle shops in West LA and they have an insta you can check for new beers. The staff has always been helpful to me, so I think that would be an easy in and out.
