I'm not aware and I wish I wasn't because my liver can't take this much punishment. Is this the new /final batch?

I don't know. Could be. Do you want to take that kind of chance? Just saying ...

Trying a glass at tasting room now. Tasty as always, though I'm puzzled that even the draft version is still. This beer often has a very low level of carbonation, but this has none whatsoever. Odd.

Is anyone else counting down to this weekend... or is it just me...

any word on a taplist, beers to expect, etc? I've never been to a Fred Fest, so I have no clue what to expect.

There's a post on their Instagram. No draft list but they mention some guest breweries. Floodland, Holy Mountain, Moonlight, Side Project, & Moksa stand out as the only ones not readily available in PDX.

Sounds Like it's going to be a bit different this year. In the past, you paid a flat fee, which paid for all the food and certain fest beers you wanted. Sounds like it's going to be a la carte this year. You pay as you go.

I'm thinking I'll likely get there around 2:30 this Friday.

Wife and I will be there Saturday morning. Hoping to leave Eug in time to get there at opening. Stay overnight, and hit it again in the morning Sunday.

In the past did they also have the ‘normal’ amount of HOTD beers on tap during Fred Fest or is the selection reduced because of the guest beers?

  10. John_M

It was reduced. They had a few still on tap, but not the full compliment.

The last Fredfest I went to, they had some special beers in the back cellar area you could try, a number of kegs in a covered area out on the street, and then various offerings on tap in the bar area. You could also still order available HOTD bottles as well.

However, I have no idea what the format is going to be like this year. It sounds as if it's going to very different this year.

If anybody is interested in hearing Alan talking about his exit options with Hair of the Dog before making his announcement to close, give a listen to him on the Drink Beer Think Beer podcast from back in November. It's worth a listen. Jump to 38 minutes in for the relevant discussion.

Thanks for posting! Interesting to hear the various options. It's doesn't seem like "closing" necessarily means forever. It seems like that he is open to options moving foward which could include the brand being brewed by another brewery or full buyout. He noted that Hair of the Dog is a niche brewery and doesn't have the volume or capacity to really grab of the interest of someone who wants to expand. The interviewed joked about Ken Grossman buying them (which would be my dream). Lastly, he originally thought of passing on to his kids, but noted that they have their own lives and brewing has become more challenging in the past.

It doesn't look like that I can make it up this summer. Labor Day weekend may be the earliest. So, hopefully, he will drag out the decision longer and I can make it up this year. Otherwise, I will have to settle for buying some bottles.

Missed the interview timeframe. Thanks for the clarification.

Listening to the first part of the interview. Loved the story of him selling his beer in supermarkets in Oregon when it was legal. Talked about pairing with chocolate and how kids would grab the chocolate.

It's been a while since I've not noticed the sun setting. This Fred fest is going to be one of those times.

Has anything been said at FredFest about when they’ll be closing the taproom for good? I’ll be down in Portland in a few weeks for the Neko Case/Indigo Girls concert and wouldn’t mind paying my last respects.

I overheard Alan say something to another attendee about closing on the 30th. I assume that is June 30th as I heard something something end of the month. He also tried to sell me his dry hopper.

If you're there on Sunday, perhaps we can meet up for a beer.

There's no telling what Alan may put on tap the last couple of weekends. Somehow I expect he's going to go out with a bang, rather than with a whimper.

Just seems so shocking that all these wonderful beers will cease to exist. I wish there was a way for some of them to continue. But I know Alan would not trust another brewery with his creations

At the first SN Single, Wet, and Wild Festival in 2013, Alan and Hair of the Dog was their serving amazing beer. At the end of the festival, my wife was collecting left over glasses and I convinced Alan to let me have the Hair of the Dog poster which they had at the event.

I may have to do a road trip to Portland in June and bring it for him to sign.

Is there anywhere to still get Adam? Some of my family lives in Portland, and I would love to round some up before it’s too late. Thanks in advance!

Have your family check Whole Foods and Market of Choice. Last time I stopped by the Market of Choice in West Linn, they still had plenty. Good luck.

Would you think it’s better to search in the suburbs vs city proper?

Probably the suburbs would be my guess, but that's just a guess. My recommendation would be to have your family call around. In particular, places like Zupans, New seasons, Whole Foods and MofC.

I've heard that another batch of Adam has been bottled and will be released soon. There was another batch of Fred as well, but a certain Portland institution bought the entire batch in kegs.

ahhh, makes sense. Ive only been to the Brass a few times in the last 5 years. Funny thing is I usually order a Fred when I go there but never put it together that its always there to order.

Between them and Apex (which always has nitro Adam), im hoping we will have a good supply for a few years
