I have seen it on the North Shore starting this week in Salem and Swampscott.
Duet and Hoppy Birthday bombers have been in Boston for a couple months. I was very excited about this development based on my prior Alpine experience, which was limited to the fantastic Exponential Hoppiness. Duet and Hoppy Birthday were both very underwhelming to me.
Nice, It's the first I have seen on the NS or in MA. I guess I don't get out enough.
Can't wait for Nelson 6 packs!
That I would be excited about.
I picked up a bomber of Alpine Nelson yesterday. I was pretty shocked. It did also have a Green Flash logo.
Duet and Hoopy Birthday six packs will be out soon too
They are on the NS as of Tues.
Anyone seen six packs in Boston/Metro west area? Looking to pick one up this afternoon...
Drinking one right now. It is decent. Kiwi Rising, using similar hops, is quite a bit better.
I find myself reminded of the many "New England/Vermont" IPA threads and the CA folks saying that Alpine Nelson was in the same style. It isn't. Not even in the ballpark. It is very west coast in style, and fits nicely with Green Flash's portfolio really. It's a good beer, but if those people think this is like Julius, Abner or Melcher Street....well then they haven't had any of those.
Agreed. I'd like to see the Nelson six-packs here and would pick one up. Duet doesn't do anything for me.
Think those same people would tell you Green Flash-brewed Nelson isn't the same beer as Alpine Nelson.
I believe it. That's why I called out that it was the GF version.
Where on the NS? Also do you have any idea where to find Nelson?
Vinnin Liquor in Swampscott and Quality Liquor in Salem
You paid that for a 6-pack? That had to have been priced wrong. Even in San Diego its around $17.
The 6-packs were costing retailers $13+. $10.49 is close to what I assume is the cost to the distributor. That's an epic pricing fail on someone's part.
I picked up some Duet and Pure Hoppiness. There is no "Green Flash" on the bottles. I'm not sure what that means or how to tell whether it came from GF or Alpine itself. I assume that the don't have capacity to ship non GF beers to MA.
I've seen pure hoppiness on the south coast. My first experience with alpine, very pleased
They are bottling into alpine bottles now, but still at green flash
Anyone understand the dating, I thought it was 6 months but found bottles dated drink by 7months out.
I passed at $ 19 DOLLARS for a six pack. Yikes.
Fort Point Market had Pure Hoppiness for $16 a six-pack.
^^^ Same thing. Better than fresh trillium right across the street?
Of course not, quality-wise. But it is less than half the price. I'd still rather pay more for Trillium of course, which is what I do.
This is not directed at you, but it continues to baffle me how we collectively find a $16 six-pack abhorrent, but can't pay $10-12 for a 750ml bottle fast enough. Unless we give breweries like Trillium reason to believe we'll pay premium prices for premium products regardless of format, there will be a powerful incentive to stick with large-format bottles because the market will tolerate those in a way that $16-18 six-packs aren't. I've said time and time again that I would gladly pay $20 for a four-pack of pint cans from Trillium.
