We walked in, they poured us 4 pints, and boom! the stuff was gone! But it tasted amazing. Wish I would have known you were there; I would have said "Party!"

I was there the night before and they mentioned it was coming on. Wish I could have tried it. The kegged version was mind-blowing.

On another note, the setup of the brewery and pub being separate with different hours and growler fill policies is disorienting...

I don't understand, I was there from like 5-7 yesterday, didn't hear anything from the bartenders about the cask and it wasn't on the list. Was it a secret or something?

Never tried the kegged version, the cask version worked just fine for lunch though

I'm pretty sure I saw the waitress holding the cask between her legs when they were milking it for your party's 4 pints! Lol. My gf & I were sitting right next to the cash register, maybe next Alpine trip we'll share a pint

No secret, we walked in around 11:15 yesterday. They were telling everyone about the cask til it tapped out ~12:30, cheers!

You're the maintenance guy, right? I think I saw you sweeping floors, fixing broken door locks, and making sure the toilet was flushing properly. :stuck_out_tongue: I, too, regret nothing.

Yes, I was there around 6pm for 1.5 hrs or so. I was in town for a wedding on a very compressed schedule (drove down Friday, wedding most of Saturday, back up today) so I didn't bother planning any beer meetups. But if I had known other BAs were in the pub at that moment, I would have said hi...

I was the guy wearing a black t-shirt with a phoenix on it. I was sitting in the patio outside. Perhaps we walked right past each other.

You must work for Alpine. I stand by it - there's no mention of this arrangement on the website except for this blurb on the front page:

    Brewery Hours:
    Tues-Sat Noon-6pm

    Pub Hours:
    Tues-Thurs 11am-10pm
    Fri/Sat 11am-Midnight
    Sun Noon-9pm

It wasn't clear until I arrived that they were two separate portions of the building and that only one part (the brewery) would fill growlers. I assumed that 'brewery hours' just referred to tours or something (which I didn't care about). It would have been nice to know ahead of time that these are two separate properties and that the brewery is the only place to get growlers. Just some user feedback -- take it as you will.

That being said, I had a great time. I am even more impressed by how world-class your beer is given that you guys brew in such a small facility.

In California you can't get growlers filled at bars or restaurants (with a few brewpub type exceptions). And while the Alpine Brewery and Pub are in the same general building, they are 2 separate properties with separate addresses/licenses/hours. So, no growler fills. Only bottles to go. I'm sure Alpine wishes they could do growler fills from there too but alas. It sucks, but that's how it goes.

I'm aware of CA laws, I live in NorCal.

I just didn't realize, from the web page, that they had two separate properties. I assumed the setup was like most other places I've encountered, which is one property with one license. Like I mentioned, I thought the "brewery hours" referred to tours, not to a separate property with a separate license. That's a very unusual setup in my experience; is that common in San Diego?

And I'm not complaining; I understand they have to abide by CA laws. I just wish it were clearer from the website.

There is some lameass bookstore and salon in between the pub and brewery. There are no tours of the brewery as there is nothing to see really.

Yeah, I figured that out when I got there.

Perhaps I should mention that this was my first time to San Diego, much less Alpine, and I didn't know anything besides what I read off the website. All I'm saying is that their arrangement is not obvious from the website. I don't think anyone is contesting that, but instead you all are re-explaining the arrangement to me. I figured out the arrangement once I got there.

alpine beer company is split into two properties that are very close to each other. one is the brewery and the other is the pub, which serves food and sells bottles. due to different licenses, you can only fill growlers at the brewery, not the pub. the brewery has different hours from the pub. to get to the brewery, you have to walk across the premises from the pub and open the door. once you turn your head 90 degrees, you have received the full brewery tour.

ping me if any of this is confusing. happy to help.

I don't understand all the discussion here. Arbitrator is clearly right: the two property set up is not obvious until you get there.
