I guess the distinction being that a ram is a mountain goat, but the goats on bock labels are your run of the mill farm goats...Thank you for bringing clarity to this important matter.

Another one bites the dust. I love Bocks. An underappreciated style arguably.

A male unneutered sheep is also a Ram, so getting the goat into the discussion does add clarity....

It certainly won't be missed off of the shelves in WV. I don't know anyone that actually bought that beer regularly.

Hopefully this opens up more room for Summer Wheat.

For deeper clarity, a ram is a male sheep. The reason a goat is used on Bock beer is that Bock is the German word for the animal (billy goat, specifically). Don't know of any Doppelschaf Bier from Germany.

Bock has been a dying style for decades. Not surprised.

Shiner does a great job keeping the old labels and look how well they seem to be doing.

Love Yuengling Lager but never found the Bock anything special. I find the Oktoberfest to be a great beer if just seems they don't make much of it. It's off the shelves way too fast.

"Loss of Anchor Porter" ? I can find no report of that.

Got a reliable source citation of that claim?

I assume you mean the loss of Anchor bock, not their Porter? Their bock was dropped, their Porter was not.....

I've always liked Genny Bock over the Yuengling but it was a nice option for the price point.

Seriously, like stupid, I can't believe this is Yuengling good. I'm a bigger fan of Yuengling's other offerings than their lager such as the Porter, Lord Chesterfield, Black & Tan, Bock(RIP) & that Summer Wheat.

It's too bad, too. The classic 'American Bocks' weren't as hefty as their German counterparts, but were still distinctive brews. Pabst was making a particularly good one, at least until the late 1970s (at that point they dumbed it down quite a bit, and within a few years it was gone altogether).

Love a bock. It's tasty, but still light enough to drink in summer heat. Love Shiner. A-B's Ziegenbock isn't bad, but isn't as good as Shiner. Martin House in Fort Worth started making Bockslider within the last year. Some around here are going crazy for it. It's too sweet for me.

I was vending at our local Farmers' Market about a month ago, and some hipsters wandered by, with their cider and mead already in hand, and glanced at our offerings. One thirsty looking girl tried to get close and I mentioned that I had four lagers available, and she was hustled away by her protective clan. On the way out, she looked again and her main guy hissed loudly "they're LAGERS", and pulled her along on.

    We had a helles, smoked marzen (rauchbier), pils and something else, baltic porter. We had sold out of trad bock by late spring. More for the sophisticated palates, I guess {shrugs}

"Opens our brewery to creating a new classic" must be referring to the IPA coming out. There have been teasers in the stores here in Central PA.

I think the new Yuengling beer is an IPL - a pale lager, not an IPA

    I want the Bock back....seriously

My mother in law, now long gone, used to stop by the brewery in Pottsville and bring a few cases of the porter back home. That really was a fine beer. She was a Bethlehem native and has relatives everywhere in the area.

Yeah, but thank GAWD they will still be selling that swill called Yuengling Premium. It would REALLY be an American tragedy if that pulled that dishwater. Whew!

Back when relatively lightweight lagers were about all one saw on the shelves, I took a liking to Bocks because they had a lot more flavor. Haven't had many recently, but don't miss them much with all the other big taste offerings now available

Sad to see it go. I can't get Yuengling here, and the Bock would show up as an extra in a couple of different boxes I'd received. Quite good.

I wasn't a fan of the bock. The summer wheat is really good as is the Oktoberfest and of course their lager. I'm not a fan of Yuenglings other offerings though.

Same, it's probably my favorite Yuengling brew. Is it really a lager? I always thought it was truly an ale.
