Looking at getting a MoreBeer kettle or a MegaPot. Would like to know if the MoreBeer has measurement markings on the inside of the kettle like the MegaPot does. Can't seem to find anything stating that it does but recall seeing that both kettles were made by the same company so I'm kind of assuming it does. Also wondering about boiling with a ball valve on the kettle. Doesn't the high heat damage the internals of the valve? Any help is appreciated.

I have 3 Morebeer Kettles. No internal markings. I added known increments of water to the pot and taped off a dowel at specific volumes for markings; if you put on weldless sight glasses you can do the same to the sight glass.

Boiling will do nothing to the internals of the ball valve.

There are kettles with more features out there (recirculation fittings, conical bottoms, etc.) from Stout and Spike brewing if a multitude of features are what you're after. I received my kettles as wedding presents, and have since had additional features welded on as well after the fact (recirculation arms on mash tun, whirlpool arm on boil kettle, pick up tubes attached to ball valve out, etc.).

Thanks for the info. Think I'll go with the MegaPot with the markings and maybe go for the ball valve too. I do mostly half batches, think an 8 gallon kettle would be too much? It'd be nice to have the ability to do a full boil for a full batch if I ended up wanting to at some point.

Go big!!!!!!!!!!!! You will want to do a full boil eventually. Then you will want to do a 10 gallon full boil, 20 gallon full boil, 30 gallon full boil, etc...... It's always better to have extra space in your kettle. I know I wish I had more space!

I bought 2 kettles from morebeer with the welded holes for the therm and ball valve. and of course one I got with the false bottom for my mash tun. No markings inside. they are megapots, in more way than one. You can pass em to down to your grandkids they are so durable. The 8 gallon would be perfect for you for your small batches without worrying about boiling over. But of course still watch it cause no matter what size you get it will happen, it just gives you a lot more space so you have time to turn the heat down.

I simply refer to my 15 gallon megapot as The Beast.
