Nope. Probably won't see it in stores until the week of May 5.
Boy. Would have been nice to bring a case of Berliner Weiss to DLD and just drink it all day.
Discount Liquor in Waukesha may still have some. I bought a few 4-packs about 3 weeks back, and there was some left.
Think I have 2 in my stash... they're all yours.
Two cases left?
All due respect to New Glarus, I'm not sure they have a beer I would ever buy 2 cases of... though I did not have the DIPA
If I could do it again, 2 cases of WSA and Enigma.
Purchased two cases of Berliner last year. Always purchase two cases of Dancing Man. Dancing Man is the best deal in craft beer.
So hopefully July will be WSA or something conpletely different and interesting.
I doubt we will see wild sour this year. It takes a lot longer to "make" than Berliner. Unless they already started brewing it last year...
My guess is that you are right. That said, the NG line of experimental beers is falling into a bit of a routine. At the very least, I hope July is something different.
I would like July's Thumbprint to be Very Sour Blackberry in 4-packs.
I will second that motion.
I heard from an NG rep at a recent tasting that July's is going to be Bourbon Barrel Kriek!!!!!!
I would have said Enigma... But if BBKriek (@CaseyGroh) is on the menu... Book It.
That would be amazing since I've heard so much about this beer & never having tried it... but I'll believe it when I see it.
You're joking, right? I have got to think you are with all the exclamation points..
This could make sense with all of the barrels in that FB post. I think there were enough barrels for a Thumbprint release.
This will be the FIB equivalent to D day when and if it drops in stores.
have you tried wild sour ale or dancing man wheat? You could rotate those two beers all summer long and be totally fine
Kenosha & Milwaukee will be completely annihilated the day it drops; and Madison will most certainly be threatened. But the isthmus configuration will help us out; think Thermopylae here with the distributor's entire stock sitting inside the Capitol dome.
Now what you really have to worry about is the back door at Casanova's, though the denizens of the Frozen Tundra have historically been more of our allies; their biggest benefactor, Surly, choosing to send aid packages to FIB Centrale over us does suggest that it's not an ironclad assumption that they wouldn't take advantage of D-Day.
Its certainly difficult to win a war on two different fronts..
(Can you tell I'm having too much fun with this?)
No need to worry about Kenosha invasions, I'll take it straight to your presidents house. I always love a reason to visit the lovely town of new glarus.
You Wiscos are over thinking this. A strategic blockage of I94, Rt 12, and I90 are all you need. That will buy you enough time (a couple hours) to get your own first.
Don't worry about the MN people, so you lose the town of Hudson, so what? Aren't they all Vikings fans anyway?
Was your TV on the History Channel when you lost your remote?
Anyone know the approximate yield of a normal Thumbprint relase?
Just went back and looked at that barrel picture NG posted on FB. I'm guessing there's around 60 barrels in that pic. If that number is correct, with a 10% Angel's Share, we'd see somewhere around 1200 cases. If it is a Thumbprint.
Russia is to Crimea as FIB's are to Kenosha when this drops
You win this thread! I will be buying at least a case of this. Give this guy some likes for crying out loud!
Haha. It looks like I was bored and couldn't sleep much last night, and the above is what I decided to write. I read a lot of history and keep up on a lot of current events, that's all. Good times. And no, this is New Glarus- I've never felt that my ability to get their beer was ever "threatened" by the good folks from Chicago. I do have a feeling that the next R&D release could potentially change that though, if there were people who didn't come to last year's because the R&D Sour Ale didn't trade for as much as they had hoped.
Anyway, let's all just hope it's BBKriek. Even if the distributed numbers are on the lower side for a Thumbprint.
I'm going to be visiting Chicago next week from Canada and I'm wondering how difficult it is to find some of the Wisconsin Belgian Red or Raspberry Tart near the border. I'm going to try to sneak up to Kenosha but I assume half of Chicago people clear it out of those beers.
The couple of times I've been to Woodman's in Kenosha I haven't had a problem finding any current New Glarus. They have a great beer selection, just be careful on the age of some items (AleSmith IPA).
If this year's R&D is a sour I expect it to be crazy and to be cursing the FIBs given how many people will probably be trying to get it just for trade bait. I really wish they didn't release those on Great Taste weekend.
I really do hope it's BB Kriek. With wild sour and VSB last summer the bar really has been raised even higher. If they don't keep releasing amazing thumbprint and R&D beers how long will it take before people start complaining like they do about Founder's backstage?
To echo this statement, every time I've been there they've had a display of cases and cases and cases of NG beers. Fruit beers included.
But, if for some reason you fail there, you can always try the store connected to Brat Stop (other side of the highway) and the Mars Cheese Castle on the way back to Chicago. The selection isn't as good and their prices are higher, but they usually have it too.
While I think the above statement is correct, I think two-bottle-per-person-per-day limit is fair, and probably isn't exploited too much, certainly not any more than all the mules I saw last year. Maybe I'm being naive though.
Disagree. Having the release done on the same weekend every year allows people to plan better, and having it coincide with the GTMW gets the beer into more people's hands than if it was just done on a random weekend (pretty sure Dan said as much when he spoke at the VSB release last year), even if there are a few people exploiting the system for "trade bait."
I think Dan and Deb know that a significant portion of their sales are driven by border jumpers from all four neighboring states. I don't think they have any interest in alienating them.
The rep told me this a few weeks ago. I was racking his brain about the sour fruit cave and future sours and thumbprints. He said the next thumbprint is Berlinner (which turned out to be true) followed by BB Kriek and then DIPA. Asked him about VSB too. He said they'd probably make it again but the last batch took three years to make. We'll see what happens. Either way, there will definitely be a lot of sours coming out form New Glarus soon.
I was at Woodman's in Kenosha tonight. Serendipity is very low, they have tons of the other three.
the walgreens across form woodmans sells plenty of ng and i have seen it there for 6.99 a sixer
How Crap!!! If that's true, it sounds f'n fantastic. I might need a case just for trading.
Anyway, if true & if this kind of stuff is going to be even at least once a year Thumbprint releases, I'm certainly more glad I'm sticking around Madison for another 5 years.
How about a case for drinking first guys?
I don't like this talk of people buying multiple cases I missed out on wild sour. All I was able to get was a pint on tap at a restaurant in the town of NG.
Admittedly I passed it when I first saw it in the store because I figured I had more time. Will not make that mistake again.
I hope NG has planned for this and brewed a larger than normal batch. Stores being completely wiped out of their Wild Sour stock less than a month after it was released was a huge eye opener.
