Ok, back to the original topic at hand. If I make the trip there tomorrow, will there or will there not be any BB4D for sale?

Im thinking they may cater to someone who wants just a few bottles but if youre asking for a case it sounds like they wont do it.

Has Kuhnhenn said anything about their Summer Solstice event?

Jeez... they really don't plan things, do they? It's only a month away! They seemed way more prepared for their Winter Solstice - I remember even seeing ads in some Michigan beer publications.

Last year they had a bunch of wacky wheat beers

Looks like they will be doing that again this year. The Michigan beer guide says they are doing "12 wheats of solstice."

Yeah, they do the big variety of wheat beers every year. It's nowhere near as good as Winter Solstice, at least in my opinion, for that reason. I like the big beers and all the barrel aged stuff they do in winter, than the variety of wheats in the summer.

Thanks to this thread a fellow BA helped me out so I could complete a trade when it looked like all the bottles were gone. And then later I was able go back and stock up after learning here that they had found more.

Today I was told its on the calendar for the 23rd but not official yet

Michigan Beer Guide always has the most info for Kuhnhenns releases as they advertise in there. Page 3 says 'Summer Solstice June 20th, 12 Wheats of Solstice, Bottle Releases, BBQ'

The 20th is the day of the actual solstice and is on a Wednesday. Waitress told me it was on the Saturday after the solstice. I've never been before, does anyone know if it is held on a weekday or Saturday?

A fair question..to which I will tell you that I don't. I drove two hours round trip for an event that wasn't close to ready at the time advertised. After being treated rudely by the staff (not for the first time) and then waiting forever to get some bottles to go which weren't sealed well and left me with rotten overpriced beer, I'm not going back. Simple as that. If their low cost of operation from being in the 'hood enables their local customer base to keep them in business, then I guess they have everything they want, but what could they provide to the area or beerlovers or customers if they cared more.....

The Kuhnhenn solstice parties are held on...the solstice! Regardless if they fall on a weekday. Go figure.

Stocking up on bb4d right now! Thank god they still had some left... That was quite a scare. Though I must say- jessies road rash is a phenomenal beer.

I liked their Solar Eclipse better than Road Rash, not that it is bad. It is too bad that their last few batches (before the brewer left) of Solar Eclipse went bad. I've still got a few bottles, but I'm saving those for a good 'ol Snow Day around here in Michigan. Unfortunately the weather did not produce one of those this year.

They also ran our of bottles of Road Rash which was unfortunate, I did pick up a few though.

Fairly distinct monsters, I'd say. The RR is exceedingly drinkable while the SE is muuuuuch heavier duty. Personally, I prefer the former.

    Which brewer left, exactly?

Wayne left Bell's FYI. We're having his going away party tonight. He's moving to CO to brew and climb mountains.

Well, wasn't Wayne "the man" at Kuhnhenns but parted ways with the brothers and took the Bell's gig? At Bell's was he utilizing his "artistic" talents or was he doing more of the brewer grunt work?

  38. LiquidTable

Wayne was and is a brewer. I mean Kuhnhennis a fraction of the size of Bells. Wayne wanted something new so he went to brew 3rd shift at Bells.
Now he's following his passion going to CO, with Mountain Sun.

He parted ways amicably...infact we just finished his party at Kuhnhenn...

Thank you for confirming my understanding of his recent career path. I'm hoping his move out west will not be the last we hear of him. ISO: Future Mountain Sun beers!

Wayne is a great brewer for sure.

Does anyone know what were some of the things he worked on specifically at Bel's?
