Has anyone ever specifically traded commercial beers for someone's homebrew? I'm thinking I may put out an offer for some homebrew sours and/or RIS. For me, the main risk here is everyone thinks their kid is the smartest, prettiest, most talented, etc, and so it goes with their homebrew. The other issue is valuation- I have no idea how to value an unknown homebrew other than that person's word. I'd probably only do the trade with someone with good rep. I'm looking to just learn about the experiences that people have had to see if it's worth a shot.

Ive had a few people ask me to trade homebrews for commercial beer but I never do. To me it seems weird and would hate to let someone down if they didnt like it. Ive told them all that straight up, I have total faith in everything I brew/ traded but I dont feel comfortable trading it for commerical beers.

Now ive done a few homebrew for homebrew trades.

I can't do that to anyone... my homebrew is just a notch above a drain pour

I've extra'd homebrew a few times in the past. Most of my brew is draft though, and the ones that are bottled I wouldn't want to trade. I like my sour brown ale with cherries and imperial porter with coffee beans and vanilla beans way too much

I just sent a bottle of my homebrew as an extra in two different trades. What will be nice is to get some feedback from someone who isn't friend or family.

After tasting @Daemose's homebrew at Jester King last weekend, I traded IP bcbbw 1:1 for two bottles each of his raspberry/cabernet sour and his strawberry green tea sour. Both were delicious and I wanted more. Generally speaking I wouldn't trade for it unless I've already tasted it and know I like it.

Never thought about this. Time to get some refills for the Mr. Beer kit!

I send homebrew out as extras. Once I traded a bottle to someone for commercial beer, but they had already tasted the homebrew in question and they were quite insistent.
